Chapter 1496:
? ? ? ? ?
Hallie had no respect for Nicole, considering her unworthy of Jarrod. Surely, Jarrod would prioritize blood relatives over a woman with no power or status, right? Could he really disregard his own family for someone so insignificant? She doubted it.
After a brief silence, Jarrod replied thoughtfully: “Hallie, hasn't Doreen taken an interest in the piano recently? I have arranged for her to take a piano course with an international teacher abroad. This will also help her to mature her character.”
Hallie considered the matter settled. Jarrod's words seemed to indicate that he would help Doreen. Relieved, she smiled.
“Jarrod, I knew you would support Doreen. She looks up to you so much. “We can talk about her piano lessons when she’s free.”
For Hallie, Jarrod was ready to intervene on Doreen's behalf, much to her delight. But then Jarrod added: "Doreen is not a child anymore. Her irresponsible actions need to be confronted. This will be a good lesson for her, to curb her impulsive nature."
“What?” Hallie was taken back. Hadn't Jarrod just implied that he would secure Doreen's release? “What do you mean?” “You just promised that you would get Doreen out.” She raised her voice.
“I never said that,” Jarrod replied, his tone icy.
“What?” Hallie exclaimed, bewildered. “You mentioned sending her to study piano. Isn’t that the same as taking her out?”
"I intend to send her, but only after her fifteen-day detention. Then Alec will take her abroad so that she can learn not only piano but also good conduct," Jarrod explained.
Hallie was speechless. Not only had Jarrod refused to take Doreen out, he was planning to send her abroad. Was he crazy?
“Jarrod, have you gone mad? Are you so under your wife’s influence that you would despise your own family?” Hallie asked, her voice shaking with anger.
In her rage, Hallie spoke without thinking.
“Have you forgotten who stood by you when everyone else turned their backs on you? When your family faced those threats, I was the one who stepped in to support you. And this is how you repay me?” Tears streamed down her face as she expressed her despair.
Jarrod's response was chilling. "If she had really forgotten, Doreen would be facing more than just a fortnight."
His words cut through the air, abruptly stopping Hallie's sobs.
“That's enough. Doreen's temperament is not suited to any business. Whether she is in custody or not is of no importance. Coddling her will only ruin her. I will make sure that her future is well taken care of. “This discussion is over.”
With that, Jarrod ended the call, unwilling to entertain any more of Hallie's complaints.
