But when he looked back, his eyes briefly met Vicki's.

Vicki was speechless. Austin's gaze was a mirror of Jarrod's when he was about to punish someone, terrifying enough to make anyone shiver.

Vicki became even more convinced that Austin's previous interactions with her were nothing more than a sham.

She had perceived him as a shy and fragile child who hardly dared to speak. Now she realized that it was all just a show put on by that clever child.

In reality, Austin was far from the boy Vicki had believed. He had cleverly gotten her to lower her defenses by feigning obedience.

If Austin had been openly hostile from the start, no one would have taken his words seriously. They could have dismissed his behavior as typical childish dislike of a stepmother and ignored it.

But by first creating an image of himself as meek and compliant, his accusations now carried much more weight. Everyone was now inclined to believe that Austin was being coerced into submitting to Vicki.

In reality, however, he had complied with Vicki's demands without complaint.

Vicki believed that she was the one who was bossing Austin around and manipulating him as she pleased. But the truth was that she had been the puppet all along. Austin had set a trap for her and she had unwittingly fallen right into it.

Panicking, Vicki tried to defend herself, stammering, “No, Jarrod, he’s not telling the truth… He’s lying…”

Vicki nervously tried to pull Jarrod towards her, but he pushed her away without hesitation. She lost her balance and fell clumsily to the ground with a loud thud.

“Jarrod…” Vicki winced, her eyes filling with tears. “I didn't expect Jarrod to be so cruel as to push her away.”

"You better think carefully about what you say next."

Jarrod said in a dangerously low voice. “Who is lying, my son or you?”

Jarrod's eyes were cold as ice, and the gravity of his words made Vicki tremble like a leaf.

Without waiting for Vicki's response, he turned his attention to the nanny, who was already scared to death.

"Did someone get you into this?" he asked coldly.

The nanny stood there silently, her face drained of color. When she met Jarrod's chilling gaze, her legs went weak and her tongue trembled as she opened her mouth to say something.

Vicki's heart jumped into her throat when she saw that the nanny was about to speak.

The nanny didn't dare tell the truth now. Even if she did, it was too late. She was doomed either way.

Wiping the sweat from his forehead, he stammered, “Sir… I don't… I mean, I don't…”

“You better speak up,” Jarrod interrupted her, his patience wearing thin.

“Lie to me and I will make sure your entire family suffers,” he warned, taking a step closer, enveloping the trembling nanny in his menacing shadow.

The nanny's eyes widened, and she was so scared that tears and snot ran down her face. At first, she had planned to retire after this job.

She was so blinded by the money Vicki was offering her that she didn't see how terrifying Jarrod was.

And now that he saw the light, it was too late… He had already offended the most terrifying person in the room, signaling his fate.

Vicki could tell the nanny was hesitating again, so she spoke up to remind her who she worked for.

«Come on, hurry up and spit it out. Did someone order you to do this? Or have you been falsely accused? Tell us the truth! If you have made a mistake, admit it. No one is forcing you to do anything…”

“Vicki, shut up!” Jarrod snapped.

Vicki was startled, but this time she recovered quickly.

She expertly squeezed away a few tears and moaned, “Jarrod, I want to know the truth too, okay? “I want to know the truth more than anyone here, because the truth is, I’m innocent!”

Unfazed by her tears, Jarrod said coldly, “Say one more word and I will take you out of here myself. “I will interrogate her first, and then I will interrogate you.”
