Chapter 1412:

Jarrod raised his hand, knocking the pillow away, sending it falling to the floor. His expression remained calm, his gaze steady. “Is this how you repay me for saving you?”
"What have you done to me?" Nicole demanded, her rage boiling over.
Jarrod, watching her anger, let a small smile play on his lips.
He picked up a glass of whiskey the housekeeper had brought him, shook it, took a sip, and said casually, "If I had done something, don't you think you would have been sorry?"
Nicole was momentarily stunned. Her ears instantly turned red. This man could talk about inappropriate topics with the same aplomb as he did in business meetings. His expression was still serious, but his words were anything but.
Jarrod, unfazed, replied: "If I had done anything to you, you wouldn't have the strength to throw a pillow at me this morning."
“You…” Nicole’s skin crawled with indignation.
“And you might want to look in the mirror…” Jarrod continued, his tone mock-helpful.
He pointed to the mirrored wall in front of the bed and observed, “As you are now, even if you were on the street, no one would bother you.”
His words struck a chord. Nicole looked furiously at her reflection in the mirror. Her face was swollen, like a pig's head. Not just her body, but her forehead and jaw as well.
Last night, his wounds were nothing more than bruises. Now, his entire face had swollen, distorting his features into a crushed, comical appearance, not unattractive, but certainly less attractive.
But she wasn't exactly ugly. Her features were her own, unchanged and authentic. Puffed up, she looked more comical than anything else, a larger-than-life version of herself.
“And my clothes…” Nicole pointed to the nightgown she was wearing and asked, “Who changed it?”
“Not me,” Jarrod quickly clarified, wanting to avoid any misunderstanding. “It was the maid.”
A wave of relief washed over Nicole, but she knew this was not the time for long discussions with Jarrod. More pressing matters demanded her attention.
The night before, Nicole had arranged for Jemma to call Jarrod if she didn't show up at the appointed time, confident that only Jarrod could outwit Vicki. It was her strategy to protect Austin. She couldn't allow any mistakes. Otherwise, she wouldn't have involved Jarrod.
Prior to the incident, Nicole had instructed Jemma to obtain the hidden camera footage in due time.
With evidence of Vicki's thugs, unable to be a stepmother to Austin, now likely in Jemma's possession, she needed to get it back quickly to leverage negotiations with Jarrod.
Nicole was convinced that once Jarrod saw the footage, he wouldn't risk the Schultz family's reputation by marrying Vicki. Even if she decided to go through with it, she would have to agree to its terms.
After a moment's thought, Nicole said, "I have to go. Bring me my clothes." The nightgown was too loose on her and wearing it outside would be humiliating.
Jarrod raised an eyebrow. “Your clothes? Those torn rags?”
Nicole realized that he was right. Her clothes were indeed in tatters. “Then please find me something to wear.”
“Why should I find you something to wear?” Jarrod scoffed. “If you want to leave, go ahead, just as you are.”
Nicole bristled at his words. She threw off the sheets and prepared to leave in her nightgown.
