Love Began with the First Meeting
Chapter 1288 Extra Story 43 Of Edgar Image

"How's it coming?" Daniel asked, looking at Maggie a moment before the scheduled time.

Without taking her eyes off the rifle, Maggie loaded the bullets. She looked a little nervous. Then she turned to Daniel and said, "Above ninety percent accuracy!" Condor was so stunned that his eyes widened to its maximum. He could not believe what he had just heard. "Ninety percent?!" he asked, his voice filled with incredulity.

Maggie nodded. "Time is too limited now. If I had time for testing, I believe I could have ensured one hundred percent accuracy," she said. She wasn't talking big. She was only twenty-five years old and she was already about to graduate as a master in missile research and had won the military rank of a First Lieutenant. All of it was the result of her own skills and hardwork, and had nothing to do with her father's influence.

A smile played at the corners of Daniel's mouth. "If you succeed," he said half-jokingly, "I will finally have a chance to show off in front of my brother-in-law." As he said that, the smile spread from the corners of his mouth to his entire face. "Condor, if I show off in front of Brian, do you think he will bring his men to challenge the Eagle Special Brigade? He hates being challenged."

Condor's eyes lit up. When Brian had come to their camp for Daniel and Cathy's wedding, he had a contest against Edgar. They had admired Brian's skills at the time. They were all looking forward to watching Brian fight with their own eyes one more time; it would greatly improve their performance.

Seeing the apparent expectation and admiration on Daniel and Condor's faces, Maggie was very curious. She wondered to what extent Brian's capabilities were so as to be admired by the likes of Daniel. She had heard that Brian had once fought against Edgar. However, she didn't know the details or the end result of their contest. The superiors of the military region had ordered everybody who had watched the contest to keep it a military secret. Therefore, nobody dared to reveal a word about it.

While she was lost in her thought, Daniel inspected the sniper rifle. He adjusted it slightly before he said into the intercom, "Sir?"

"Speak!" Edgar's apathetic voice came through the earpiece.

"Target object is three kilometers away. The light sniper rifle has been debugged, with a probability of success at ninety percent," Daniel said in a calm and steady voice. "Nighthawk requesting permission to engage again."

Silently, Edgar scanned the sensor of every branch of the Blue Force on the electronic induction map for a few seconds. Then, he said, "Permission granted."

"Permission received by Nighthawk!" Daniel said. Shifting his gaze to Condor, who was lying on his stomach next to him, he said, "Spotter in position."

Immediately, Condor picked up his professional telescope to observe the situation. After reporting a series of data, including the bearing, humidity and wind direction, he said, "Shoot is feasible."

When Daniel placed his finger on the trigger, Maggie felt her heart skip a beat. She gulped hard, fearing the ten percent failure possibility. After all, they were not training or debugging for research. They were facing a real "enemy", who were only three kilometers away from their position. If Daniel missed his shot, they would end up expose themselves and their position.

Meanwhile, Daniel adjusted the bearing and the position of the riffle according to the data reported by Condor. Then, he squeezed the trigger and with a bang, the bullet flew out of the sniper rifle. Maggie had her telescope in front of her eyes. When she saw the target object smoking red, she was so excited the she nearly shouted out loud.

A faint smile played at the corners of Daniel's mouth. It looked like he wasn't surprised by the result. He said on the intercom, "Sir, the target object has been destroyed. Nighthawk requests transfer." "Approved!" Edgar said in a voice as emotionless as ever. He didn't seem affected by the good news.

"Yes, sir!" Daniel answered. He hinted at Condor with his eyes, ordering him to prepare for transfer. Then he looked at Maggie and said, "You have fulfilled your task. Now go back to the command center.

"Maggie's excitement faded in an instant. She hadn't expected that Daniel would kick her out as soon as he had made use of her. However, they were now in a battlefield, where a military order could absolutely not be disobeyed. Despite her unwillingness, she said, "Yes, Sir!"

It was not until she had seen Daniel and Condor move away from there that Maggie gritted her teeth and criticized them silently in her head. Then she stood up and went back through the way she had come. Along the way, she heard reports on what was happening to the Blue Force.

Of course, these reports involved Garth, Jake and others she knew very well. Maggie felt aggrieved. She had fought for the opportunity to come to the frontline, but now, she had to go back to the command center before she could feel the real air of a battle. She could not accept it at all.

On her way to the command center, she saw Claire walking towards her. Her mood worsened. As rivals in love, they were envious of each other.

Since both of them had the rank of a First Lieutenant, neither of them had to salute to the other. However, their eyes met in hostility.

Maggie wasn't in the mood to engage in a conversation with the old woman. With a sneer, she withdrew her sight from her, intending to pass by and go to the tent. She hadn't taken two steps further before she heard a sarcastic voice from behind.

"I didn't think..." Claire turned around slowly, "that flattery and seduction would work so well in the Eagle Special Brigade. Obviously, somebody doesn't behave herself. I just don't understand how a military college could ignore the fundamental quality required of a soldier just because she has a mediocre amount of ability."

Maggie knew that Claire was referring to her. With a faint smirk, she turned around and looked at Claire. "Seduction is also one of my many abilities. Unlike a particular old woman, who pretends to be pure and decent, despite her old age." Claire's face changed colors from green to pale white to red. Maggie continued, "There is something that I don't understand either. Some instructors, like Cathy, are amiable, and really deserve the title. However, someone else has no good manner or tolerance for other people. I have always wondered whether there is some hidden rule within the S Army to protect people like that."
