Zay’s POV

I stared around at the pack. Everyone was rushing around, trying to do whatever they could. Those who couldn’t fight went to the shelters while everyone else tried to find weapons or something that could help them in battle. Even those who fight mainly in wolf form knew weapons could help. At this point, anything could help. My eyes dart to a blonde woman with purple highlights and a baby in her arms running towards me.

“Lesa! What are you doing out here? Get inside!” Lesa was a great and gifted fighter, especially in human form. Her dad had taught her well but she wouldn’t be fighting today. Her only job today would be to protect her son.

“I was out visiting a friend when the sirens sounded. I got here as fast as I could.” Wesley started to cry in her arms, his pale cheeks turning red. She cooed him and bounced him, trying to calm him down but the sirens that were still going off weren’t helping. His hearing was a bit sensitive after all.

“Well either go to my office and lock yourself in or go to Xavier’s and Celeste’s room. Celeste has extra security measures up there as well.” She nodded and ran off into the pack house. I sighed and looked around, trying to find my mate. The last time I saw her was when we had breakfast this morning but I hadn’t seen her since. “Kaleshia,” I whispered to myself. “Where are you?”

“Zay!” I snapped my head towards the opposite direction I was looking and sighed. My eyes met the completely blue ones of my mate, my nerves calming down a little. I ran up to her, wrapping my arms around her. “I’ve missed you too my love but right now you should be getting to shelter. You can’t be out battling, who else will help the injured when we win?” I smiled at her optimism and yanked her into the pack house with me.

“I just wanted to see you first. Please stay safe my darling.” She smiled at me and leaned down to k**s me gently but then she pushed me back.

“Get to safety and I’ll see you when this is over.” I nodded and went upstairs to Celeste’s and Xavier’s room. I could look for her up there. That’s why Celeste is up there as well. Lycer knew she would want to help and with the barrier Kaleshia created she’d be safe from things outside of the pack house. She also wouldn’t want to be somewhere that she couldn’t see Xavier when he arrived. I don’t know how long it will take for them to get here but I know they won’t beat Malum and his experiments.

I nodded to the guards when they saw me and they opened the door. As soon as I was inside they shut the door. There was two more guards inside but they were near the balcony that Xavier uses to look over the pack. I walked towards them and saw Celeste on the balcony, a bow in front of her and a quiver of arrows on her back. There was two more of the quivers of arrows on the floor beside her along with about ten throwing knives on the table that was out there.

“Celeste?” Her head snapped up towards mine. Her eyes were wide with fear and her hands were kind of shaking. “Are you okay?”

“Y-yeah. I’m just worried.” I pulled her back into the room and sat her down on the bed.

“Go ahead and rant,” I told her calmly. Sometimes all people need to do to get rid of nerves is let it out so it isn’t pent up inside their minds, trying to make it’s way past their throat and out their mouth. I think it gives them a clear airway.

“Lycer.” There was a pause as she tugged harshly on her sleeves. I took her hands in mine, trying to comfort her. “He uh. . . He has all these scars on his back, like I do but multiplied by a hundred and far worse. I’ve seen what Malum can do and I know he can do worse. His experiments are awful too. Lycer says most of them are soulless. And Xavier and almost all of the warriors aren’t here. What if the people I love get hurt? What if at some point Xavier does make it back to only bodies? I can’t leave him alone! And Lycer! Malum wants him! No, he wants to know how to be immortal. Such a stupid wish,” she mumbles. “He’s going to try and kill every last one of us just to figure out how to be immortal. We don’t even have enough people with us. Almost all the warriors went with Xavier. No one knows how many experiments Malum has, not even Lycer! And Lesa just had a baby awhile ago and what if he gets hurt?”

“Take deep breaths,” I said when her hands started to shake more. I pulled her into a hug, brushing her hair back like my mother used to do for me when I’d have nightmares. Sometimes I would do the same thing for Kaleshia. She has lived so long that her bad memories sometimes replay in the form of a nightmare. It seemed to work for Celeste as well as her hands stopped shaking. “Everything is going to be okay.”

“What if it isn’t?” I smiled sadly at her. I felt tears gather in my own eyes as I thought about the possibility of my mate not kissing me good morning anymore. I blinked them away and moved my hands back to hers so she wouldn’t rip off her sleeves.

“I don’t know but you are going to be fine. So is Lesa, Xavier, Delian, and everyone else.”

“Zay, can I tell you something?”

I smiled with a nod, “Of course you can.”

She took a deep breath and looked into my eyes. Her eyes were still teary but not as much as before. She hands started to shake again but it wasn’t very much. I squeezed her hands.

“I’m pregnant.”
