Innocent Little Runt -
Chapter 6
“What do you mean?” I growled out. My wolf was on edge, meaning it was harder for me to control him.
“We don’t have a runt in our pack and I’ve never treated a human before. When I was trained it wasn’t necessary. Your father would never let a runt into the pack and any humans that were brought in would be taken to the hospital in town. I don’t know how to treat this Alpha, I’m very sorry.” Her words were quiet and her voice almost wavered. She was scared.
“Then what can we do?” I looked over at my mate. Her long hair was splayed around her as she kept moving her head from side to side. I wanted her to open her eyes, but I knew she was asleep.
“Let her rest and hope that she will be okay by the time that the new moon in no longer in the sky. I’m sorry Alpha. I can try to make sure her temperature stays down and I can treat her cut to the best of my ability but that’s all.” I looked down at the white and blue tiled ground, thinking of how Cilest will be fine. Thinking of how in three days, I can actually enjoy having a mate, because so far it hasn’t exactly been the f*g fairy tail that everyone expects it to be.
I took a deep breath in and nodded. “That’s fine. Thank you Zay.” I sat down in a chair that was next to the bed, my head in my hands. Zay scurried around her office, getting things to clean up Celeste’s wounds with. I looked up and noticed her re-wrapping Celeste’s leg. “I’m going to have her in my room instead of in here. I want her to be near me and be as comfortable as possible. You can come and check on her at any moment, just don’t barge right in. My wolf is already on edge, and I don’t want to attack you.” She nodded.
I gently picked up my mate and cradled her to my chest. She snuggled her head into my shoulder and it made me realize how warm her forehead was. I sighed as I walked over to the bed where one of the wet rags were and put it on her forehead. She sighed and I saw Zay, in the corner of my eye, looking at her in worry and yet with joy, all at the same time.
I left Zay’s office and walked back upstairs to my room, being careful of my fragile mate. As soon as I get to my room, I set Celeste down on my bed. I quickly step out of my jeans and take off my shirt. I grab Celeste and a slight m**n like sound leaves her lips and I stiffen, pushing down my wolf. I pull the covers up and slip under them, gently pulling Celeste to my side. The same sound left her lips and I pushed my wolf down with a struggle.
I sighed in frustration and grabbed the rag, which had fallen off of Celeste’s head, and gently brush it across Celeste’s forehead. She sighed in content and her breaths evened out. She was asleep. I sighed peacefully and fell asleep.
~~~
I woke up to the sound of whining, my wolf immediately going on alert. My eyes shot up and I saw Celeste. Her breathing was heavy and uneven. There was sweat on her forehead. I sighed and picked her up in my arms bridal style.
I didn’t care that I was only in my boxers; I just wanted for Celeste to be okay. So I walked down stairs and went to Zay’s office. When I walked in and saw her I sighed in relief. Thank the goddess that she was awake because it was around four in the morning. “Zay.” Her head snapped up to me. She took in Celeste’s form in my arm. Her breathing was harsh, sweat on her forehead, and she kept moving her head from side to side as if she was trying to avoid someone whispering in her ears. Zay nodded in understanding.
“Lay her down please.” I walked over to the bed that was in her office and set Celeste down. I looked down at the tiles on the floor as I tried to ignore the whimpers that kept leaving my little mate. I eventually sat down next to Celeste and held her hand while Zay tried to clean out the cut that was on Celeste’s leg.
“Alpha.” I snapped my head up. “Last night I realized that she could have sprained her ankle but I didn’t want to do more than wrapping it with the infection not far away. It seems that the infection is possibly going down her leg from the inside.” I sighed in frustration.
“Is there anything you can do? Please Zay.” She looked lost in thought for a minute.
“We can do what we did last night. Get a cool rag, try to keep her comfortable, and hope her temperature goes down. Give me an hour.” I nodded and rushed to get a cool rag. I picked Celeste up and sat down on the bed. I let Celeste lay down on my chest. She sighed. I wiped away the sweat that was on her forehead and neck before laying it across her forehead.
I laid there for what felt like forever, in a good way, just playing with her hair. Every time she sighed in content I would k**s the top of her head. She would move closer to me every now and then and I found myself wishing that she would be like this when she wasn’t sick.
The hour came to an end and Zay looked very proud of herself. In her hand she had a shot that was filled with a purple liquid. Celeste’s eyes opened ever so slightly and they widened slightly at the sight of the needle. She squirmed but I wrapped my arms around her and whispered in her ear, “It’s alright little one. Just close your eyes and calm down. We are trying to help you. Just close your eyes and listen to my voice. It will be over before you know it and soon you will be all better.”
Celeste closed her eyes and leaned against my chest as I continued to whisper in her ear. I felt her tense as Zay put the needle in Celeste’s leg. Tears came to the corner of her and I whispered a bunch of compliments in her ear, hoping she could somehow ignore the pain. After a minute she went limp and her breathing slowed down to even and peaceful breaths.
“What was that?” I questioned Zay.
“A small dosage of wolfsbane, very small dosage. Just enough to get her some sleep. She must really need it. She’s too small to take all of this on.” Zay had also been mixing a few things in a container. The result was a green sludge that she started to put on Celeste’s leg before wrapping it back up. “And that is a few natural herbs that could help with the infection.” I nodded and played with Celeste’s hair.
Alpha, my Beta’s voice came through my head.
What do you need? I’m kind of busy right now. I was clearly frustrated. I just needed to make sure Celeste got better and I didn’t need anyone to distract me.
There are multiple rogues surrounding the area.
How many?
Two, three at the most but they are just standing here. Not even attempting to cross the border.
I sighed in frustration. I’ll have to deal with this. I’ll be down there in a minute.
I picked up Celeste and laid her back down on the bed. I kissed her forehead and told Zay that I would be back later. I walked out the door and followed Jared’s scent to the east border.
By the time I got there one of my two third in commands, Jake, was lying down on the floor. His best friend, my other third in command Josh, was next to him, tears in his eyes. I breathed in the scent in the air and along with the smell of Jake’s b***d was the scent of rogue. I turned to the smell of rogues and saw three men.
The three men were covered in scars and dirt. They all had brown hair that went down to their neck or longer. The one on the left had brown eyes, the one on the right had almost black eyes, and the one in the middle had green eyes. I sneered at all three of them.
“Which one of you hurt him?” I growled, nodding my head towards Jake. They stayed silent. I looked towards Josh. “Who did this to him?” I took that time to look at Jake’s injury. He had a deep gash on his left side and a long trail of b***d started at his right shoulder and ended at his h*p. No wonder Josh looked so worried.
Josh pointed a shaky finger at the man on the right. The man had a smirk on his face sending a flash of anger through Josh. His jaw tightened and he ran at the man, jumping in the air and shifting halfway. The other two men were about to jump in and help but I growled in warning. “Don’t interfere or you will be next.”
Josh slashed at the man with his claws. The man wrapped his hands around Josh’s throat, trying to push him off but Josh lost control whenever he got angry, and he was definitely angry. Josh snapped his teeth and bit into the man’s shoulder.
“Josh! Step back.” Josh tried to swipe at the man again but I growled. Josh retreated and went back to his best friend’s side. He laid down with his head on his Jake’s arm, whining.
I looked back to the two rogues, the third was on the ground healing slowly. Good. Jake was in the same situation, just with less injuries, and it was due to that rogue. It’ll probably take the rogue longer to heal, if I decide not to inject him with wolfsbane right away, due to the multiple injuries.
“What do you want?” I growled. First I have to leave my mates side, my sick mate, and then they hurt one of my third in commands. This is not going to be their lucky day.
“First we would like help for our friend here,” the man in the middle nodded in the man on the grounds direction.
“Not going to happen. He hurt one of my third in commands, immediately pissing off my other third in command. You will be lucky if I don’t sick him,” I pointed to Josh, “back on your friend. You don’t mess with one of them without messing with the other.” The man with green eyes growled.
“Fine, all we want is a certain rogue. She ran off in your pack’s direction yesterday after we killed her mother.” I growled. If they were talking about Celeste I would kill them. No, I would let Celeste decide if we should t*e or kill them. They better hope they weren’t talking about Celeste. “She was a runt if that helps in any way.” I growled loudly. “Now you won’t have to kill her, we can do it for you.” He gave a fake smile. With a lot of effort, I pushed my wolf down.
Grab them. First the uninjured and we’ll grab the third one later, I mind linked to Jared and Josh.
I don’t want to leave Jake, Alpha. I could hear the desperation in Josh’s tone.
Then you grab him and I’ll grab one of the rogues. Josh nodded. Take them to the cellars.
I lunged for the green eyed rogue the same time that Jared lunged for the brown eyed rogue. They were too surprised to fight back at first. After a few minutes of struggling we had them both down in the cellar and Josh was down in the infirmary with Jake. After that I had Jared go and get the third rogue and put him in the cellars away from the other two. Even if Celeste decided not to have them tortured that third one was still going to get it. And I’m going to let Josh do it.
Celeste. I have to get back to her. What did she ever do to those rogues for them to kill her mother? Even if she did something wrong, I would still be there for her. She needs someone right now.
