Zay’s POV

I stared at Kaleshia as she moved around the kitchen. She insisted on making lunch this afternoon even though I told her that she should be my lunch. She just smacked me upside the head and stomped out of our room. When I followed her to the kitchen she added a little extra sway to her h**s, as if to punish me. I’ll get her back for it later. I smiled as she handed me a plate with Alfredo Chicken and Rice. It smelled heavenly, making my stomach growl.

“Thank you my darling,” I smile sweetly at her. She nods and sits down in front of me. I pick up a spoonful of food and almost m**n when it hits my tongue. What can’t she do?

“I have to leave soon.” I stopped the spoon that was halfway to my mouth. I put it down and stared at her.

“Why?” I crossed my arms as I looked her over, trying to pick up on any emotions. Nothing. She sighed and tried to reach her hand out to me. I backed up, the chair scratching the floor. I hated when she did this, leaving.

“You know I have a business. It’s a deal I made a long time ago and I intend to honor it. I will use my powers in helpful, good ways.” She looked away, a foggy look going across her eyes. She was remembering something.

Every now and then she would tell me stories of her life. . . Stories of before she met me. A lot I would get furious at for multiple reasons. Some being the mention of past lovers. That usually ended up with me thinking she didn’t truly love me but then she would prove that she did through an amazing k**s. Sometimes it was her telling me about how she got hurt. I would then proceed in finding and lightly kissing every scar.

However, I always have her retell them to me. Most of the time it makes her happy. Then there are times when she just cries in my arms over the memory of the loss of her friends.

That’s the thing about Magi, they live until they are killed. In a way, they’re immortal. I fear the day that someone tries to come after her. . . The ones who are crazy enough to believe she can make them immortal. I’ve asked her about that and she never answers. I know she just doesn’t want to think about me dying. Just as much as I don’t want to think about her living on without me. . .

I can recognize the memory in her eyes now. I’ve heard the story enough times to see it in her eyes. She had a past lover, Calos. She truly did love him and it honestly worries me sometimes. One day he basically took a bullet for her after she betrayed a man who she said she would help. She ran from him as soon as she realized he wasn’t a good man. Long story short, he tried to kill her and Calos stepped in front of her. She made a promise to him that she would still help people out but only for good intentions. It was his dying wish.

I sigh and get out of my chair. I go in front of her and grab her hand that was still resting on the table. She blinks and looks at me, the memory slowly fading from her eyes. “I’m sorry,” I whisper. “I know what this means to you.” She smiles a little.

“Thank you love.” She gets up, my hand still in hers. She pulls me to her and wraps her arms around me gently.

“When do you leave?” I was hoping it was no time soon. I loved the days when I woke up to her steady breathing and her arms wrapped lightly around my waist. I love playing with her beautiful brown hair. I love kissing her. Her lips always taste like honey and berries. I didn’t want her to leave.

“I have to leave tomorrow morning. It’s a long trip and the sooner I get there, the sooner I can come back to you.” I smiled a little. I brought my hand up to her cheek, rubbing my thumb across her cheekbone.

“I don’t want you to leave me,” I whisper.

“I know my love but I always return. Ego semper reddeo amicae mea.” I shivered as she spoke her first language to me. She was raised with Latin as it is easier for spells to be done that way. Of course she learned English and many other languages. She is fluent in at least ten different languages.

She chuckled and moved behind me. She gently put her hands on my waist and kissed my neck. I shivered and leaned my head back with a chuckle. “Stop,” I said after my light laughter died out. “Someone could walk in.”

“That’s why it’s fun. Well, more fun than usual.” I laughed at her and twirled back around in her arms.

“You, my darling, are ridiculous. There are a few kids who wander around the pack house, we have to be careful. Remember the time my niece walked in on us?” She rolled her eyes.

“We were only kissing. It could have been worse!” I nodded in agreement.

“But you weren’t the one to get a lecture from Jared. I swear him and our mother would rant on forever if someone didn’t stop them.” I chuckled.

“Have you talked to her lately?” I shook my head. Mother didn’t accept my. . . interest in girls. She said it was wrong and always complains about how I should have been mates with Xavier.

I practically sneered, “Why would I?” She smiled at me, a bit sadly.

“I’m sorry my love. I didn’t mean to upset you.” I smiled at her.

“What great lives we used to have darling!” I dripped as much sarcasm into my words as I could. She leaned forward and quickly pecked my lips. A smile fought my lips. She did it again. And again. And again until I couldn’t fight off the smile.

I love this woman.
