Innocent Little Runt -
Chapter 46
Lycer’s POV
Celestial started to cough a really awful sounding cough about twenty minutes into walking around.
Auxilio said that if we didn’t want to get caught our best shot was the long way. I remember when I was taken here they walked throughout every twist and turn. Not only did it make my feet hurt but it made me confused. That was their intention, so I wouldn’t be able to find a way out of here.
“No offense Lycer but you need to get her to shut up,” he basically whispered. “She is going to get us caught.” I glared at the back of his head which was covered in his long white hair. Not lightning blonde, but white.
“She’s sick. She can’t help it.” Celestial clung onto me tighter as she tried to stop her coughing. “You’re fine Celestial,” I whispered so only she could hear me. “The sooner we get out of here the better.”
“Don’t worry,” I could tell just from the way he said that, that he was rolling his eyes at me. “We are almost there.”
We turned a corner only to be pushed back by Auxilio. “Hey!” I whisper shouted at him, not wanting to draw any attention from any guards walking by. Celeste whined in protest at our sudden movement. I looked at her for a second, making sure she was okay, before turning my attention back to Auxilio. He was in front of us only he was looking into the next passage.
“Aux, what are you doing out here?” A voice called out. Experiment 53. I could picture him now with his skin that looked burned but as if it were by some acid. His skin also had a blue tint to it that you can tell was from some inner malfunction. His eyes were pure brown, no pupil, and it lacks multiple shades of the color like Celestial’s. His eyes, like the rest of his body, were disgusting. Personally, they reminded me of s**t. “You’re not on duty tonight.”
“I know,” he awkwardly laughed. “I was just having trouble sleeping. Walking the passages helps me sometimes.”
“I’m going to have to report this to Malum anyways. According to the rules, no one but guards are allowed out past curfew. He’ll probably let you off with a simple flogging but I suggest you don’t do this next time.” I heard the sound of feet walking away and then Celestial coughed loudly. Auxilio fake coughed to try and cover it up but even I could tell it didn’t work.
“Sorry,” Auxilio said nervously. “I had a tickle in my throat,” he said the sentence sounding as if he didn’t actually know if he said it right.
“Don’t bullshit me Aux,” he said angrily. “Who’s there?” I heard his footsteps again and I held on tighter to Celestial. I was about to run in the opposite direction when I heard a large smacking sound, a grunt, and a large thud.
Auxilio popped his head around the corner and smirked. “You can come over here now. You really owe me by the way.” I nodded with a smile making its way to my lips.
Celestial started to cough again and I pulled her back a bit to look at me. My smile was once again replaced by a frown as I saw b***d on the corner of her lips. “How are you feeling,” I asked her even though I knew she probably felt like s**t.
“Ancillary won’t stop whining and my head really hurts. It feels like someone is trying to drill a hole in my forehead. And I feel nauseous. Sorry if I puke on your back by the way.” I chuckled at her. I don’t know anyone else who would joke in this kind of situation.
“You’ll feel better once we get out of here and get you back to your mate.” Her eyes lit up at the mention of her mate.
“Hey, I’m all for the whole supporting best friends thing going on but we have to go before another guard comes.” I nodded and Celestial laid her head back on my chest. I walked around the corner to see two things. One of them was experiment 53 crumpled on the ground and the other was an exit.
I smiled at the sight that I haven’t seen in almost two years. It was night time so the stars were out. I immediately looked for the north star and smiled when I saw it. There were trees that blocked my sight of the majority of the sky but every here and there you could see a patch of the sky. It was kind of windy which is either going to help carry out scents away or help lead them to us. Celestial shivered while I gladly took in the slight breeze that entered the passage. I haven’t felt the wind on my skin in what feels like forever.
“This is one of the side entrances but Malum hasn’t blocked it yet. It will work but you’ll have a bit of a longer walk to get to her pack. I overheard Malum’s plans one time having to do with something from Paramount pack,” he added quickly, glancing behind me. He seemed to be in a rush to send us on our way. “I didn’t know that they were talking about her until they came back from the attack on Paramount with her and threw her in your cell. I swear I didn’t know anything about this before.”
“Thank you Auxilio, I really owe you.” I felt Celestial’s breathing calm down telling me that she was over the little coughing fit enough to try and sleep some more. Good. She’ll need it to keep up her strength. She will need as much as she can get. I don’t know how many days it will take us to get back to her pack.
“You do, so help me now.” I scrunched my eyebrows together in confusion. What could I do for him now. As if reading my mind he replied, “Kill me.” My eyes widened.
“What?” He nodded.
“I’ll never be truly accepted. I’m a disgrace and a monster.” I shook my head.
“No, I won’t do it. Just because you’re an experiment doesn’t mean you aren’t a good person.” He shook his head.
“Please,” he said. “I’ve seen what has happened to the other experiments. After a few years they start to turn grey and become ill. It’s a violent sickness and an even more violent death. I never wanted to be this way. I was just a normal rogue and then Malum took me in, said he could make me stronger and I believed him. Next thing I know I look like some alien and I’m an experiment for his own selfish reasons. Please Lycer, I can’t go on this way.”
I took in a shaky breath and walked out of the cave, instinctively holding Celestial closer to keep her warm. I looked beside me to see Auxilio looking towards the sky.
“My little sister is up there, among the stars. I wanted to become stronger to avenge her but I don’t think she would want me to do that. She was such a sweet person and our relationship reminds me of you and Celestial. I’m sure you understand that I never wanted to live without her.” I nodded. If Celestial died I would kill myself. “So please, end my misery and kill me.” He pulled a g*n out of his pocket and held it out towards me.
Reluctantly, I put Celestial down against one of the trees and walked back over to Auxilio. I took the g*n out of his hand and pulled him to me. “You’ve been a good friend,” I whispered as I hugged him.
Auxilio knelt down in front of me and looked at the sky with a smile on his face. I put the g*n to the back of his head as I put my other hand on his shoulder.
“Auxilio?” I bit my l*p.
“Yeah,” he croaked.
“You’re a good man no matter what anyone tells you, and your sister would be proud of you.” I could see a bit of the smile that was stretching across his face. I closed my eyes and pulled the trigger. A silencer stopped the noise of the g*n but it didn’t stop the noise of his body falling to the ground.
I walked back over to Celestial, who was starting to stir. I picked her up and let her lean on my chest as I walked into the woods.
“What was that?”
“What was what?” I asked, hoping she’ll think she imagined it.
“Never mind. Where’s the guy? The one who helped us. His name was Auxilio I think.” I smiled slightly but it was a sad smile.
“Yeah, his name was Auxilio. He uh, he left. He wanted to go and search for his sister.”
