Innocent Little Runt -
Chapter 28
Celeste’s POV
I stared at the television as scenes of a girl running away flashed on the screen. Not literally of course. She had gotten into the car with the main guy of the story so he could take her to a train station. I hated it. I wanted them to be together and I thought it was going to happen until he told her that they wouldn’t work out. He obviously wanted them to work out but he could tell it wouldn’t. It broke my heart.
I felt a hand on my h*p and I jumped up so far that I am surprised that I didn’t hit the ceiling.
“Calm down little one, it’s only me.” I looked back to see Xavier. I sighed in relief and smiled. He put his hand back on my h*p and this time I paid attention to the sparks. He picked me up and I let out a small squeal of surprise. He spun me around in his arms so I had my hands on his shoulders and legs wrapped around his waist.
“Xavier! I can walk, so put me down!” He chuckled and put me down. He kept my hand in his and began to pull me after him. My eyebrows knitted together in confusion when he pulled me into a room filled with a bunch of large multicolored things that were lined up in a row.
“Pick one,” he said walking behind me and kissing the top of my head.
“What are they?” I was really confused by now. Why would I pick one of these? For what?
Xavier chuckled. “They’re cars little one.” I was still confused. “They take us to and from places. It’s easier than running. Not to mention that we can’t go running through one of the towns where humans live.” I still didn’t completely understand but I nodded nonetheless.
I looked at all of them. Some of them were low to the ground while others were higher up. All of them were different shapes and different colors.
“Well. . .” Xavier said. “Pick one.”
“But I don’t know about any of them. I’m sorry Xavier.” I felt bad that I couldn’t fit in. I thought that I was fitting in pretty well here but I guess not. I have been raised as a rogue since six and before then I never left the pack. Father was too protective of me and Mother. Of course Mother could leave the pack if needed but she usually stayed with me.
“Just pick your favorite color, okay?” I nodded and walked across the room to where one of the cars was. It was the one that caught my attention first. It was a bit high off the ground and almost square shaped. However, it caught my eye because the color was the same as Xavier’s eyes. Forest green.
“This one. I like this one,” I stated firmly. I could hear Xavier chuckle from behind me.
“Good choice little one.” He walked around to one side of the car and opened a door. “Come here.” I walked besides him and he smiled. He picked me up by the shoulders and I g*****d in annoyance.
“I can do stuff on my own Xavier.” He set me down inside of the car. It was nice, all leather.
“But I don’t care, little one. You should never have to do something that I could easily do for you.” I rolled my eyes. Men are stupid sometimes.
He got into the seat besides me and started up the car. I jumped when there was a sort of roar coming from the car. He turned on music and I leaned back into the seat. I shut my eyes, enjoying the music and trying not to think that any moment this death trap could fall apart.
“Little one? You can open your eyes now. We’re here.” I opened my eyes to see that we were in a town. I had only been to a town once or twice and it was usually to steal clothes or food from a farmers market.
Xavier opened my door for me. I hadn’t even realized that he got out of the car in the first place. He undid the thing that he had put across my chest and waist and I hopped out of the car. He held out his hand for me and I placed mine in his. He started to pull me along with him.
Xavier wrapped his arm around my waist when we got into a crowd of people.
“Where are we going?” Xavier glanced at me and kissed my head.
“It’s a surprise.” I nodded, knowing that he wouldn’t give in. Besides I wouldn’t mind a surprise.
We eventually came to a building that was really tall. We walked inside and he pulled me up the stairs. I ignored all of the people that smelt weird. They smelt like smoke, sweat, and chemicals. It was disgusting.
We eventually reached a door and Xavier pushed it open. We walked out onto an open space that had no ceilings. We were on the roof. By now the sky had gotten dark so it only made the sight more beautiful. Xavier had lights strung up everywhere. In the middle was a table with two chairs, a container on top of it.
We walked over towards the table and Xavier pulled out a chair for me. I blushed and sat down. Xavier sat in the other chair that was across from me and opened the container. Inside was two plates with some kind of chocolate on them. Xavier sat one in front of me and one in front of him.
“This is Lesa’s famous fudge. She only gave us two pieces though. Ever since she got pregnant she has eaten a bunch of chocolate. It’s her weakness.” I chuckled. I took a bite of the fudge and a slight m**n bubbled in my throat.
“This is amazing!” He smiled at me and put his hand across the table, grabbing mine.
We ate in silence but every now and then he would glance at me and I would glance at him. When we finished we got up and he led me towards the edge of the building. There was a railing, but I was still terrified that I would fall.
“It’s okay Celeste. You won’t fall and if you do I will always catch you.” I smiled up at him and looked back at the view of the cities lights. It was beautiful.
“Do you want to learn a few constellations?” I thought about it for a moment. Mother used to point out constellations to me but I never remembered them. I nodded.
“Do you see those ones up there,” he pointed to a few stars and I nodded. “That is Cygnus the swan.”
“It’s beautiful.”
“Not as beautiful as you.” I rolled my eyes at his cheesiness.
“That is really cheesy Xavier,” I looked up at him only for there to be something soft on the corner of my lips. I pulled away and stared at Xavier with wide eyes. He opened his mouth, his eyes apologetic. I put my hands on his neck and smashed his lips to mine.
