Innocent Little Runt -
Chapter 14
Xavier’s POV
I smiled as Celeste mumbled in her sleep. At first she would look like she was caught in a nightmare but then she woke up. Now, she had fallen back asleep and was breathing peacefully, mumbling incoherent words every now and then.
Her hair was a mess, her clothes wrinkled and disheveled, and there were slight bags under her eyes. Yet, she still looked like the most beautiful creature to me.
I sighed, knowing that I have business that needs to be taken care of. I had been putting off all of my Alpha duties since Celeste came here and it was probably, no doubt, piled up on my desk. I also had a meeting to prepare for on Friday. The Alpha’s from the two neighboring packs were coming over to discuss the recent rogue problems. Not to mention I had to go over everything that Josh found on Christopher.
I kissed Celeste’s forehead and walked out of the room. I walked up to the third floor of the pack house that had the library and my office. I opened my office door to see a familiar sight of papers laying on my desk. My office was fairly simple. Mahogany desk and bookshelves. There was two window, both that gave a view of the driveway so I could see if the people who I have to meet with have arrived on time.
I sat down in my chair and went through piles of paperwork involving treaties, rogue problems, and alliances. After a few hours I was almost halfway through. I sighed in frustration. My wolf wouldn’t stop stirring and he refused to stop until Celeste was near us.
There was a knock on the door and Josh walked in with a pile of papers.
“I’m sorry Alpha,” he said in a tired voice. “It was a tad bit hard to find any of his records.” It didn’t take me long to notice the bags under his eyes and his messy hair, that he had obviously been running his hands through.
“Thank you Josh. I apologize for pushing you to finish within a few hours. Tell Jake that won’t have to train today. Go get some rest.” He nodded and walked out of my office, almost tripping over his own feet in the process.
I looked at the file that Josh had laid in front of me. I opened the first manila folder and found a picture of a smiling family. The father held pride in his eyes as he smiled down at his mate and son, who looked to be no older than 6.
I looked at Josh’s scribbled, but still neat handwriting.
Christopher Linkton was born to the Luna and Alpha of the Sun K**s Pack. His mother died when Chris was at the age of two. His Father was believed to have died after the rogue attack on their pack when he was 12, almost 13.
He joined the Paramount Pack at age 17. He was believed to have been traveling with the remaining members of his old pack as they split off into other packs. Reasons why he left are unknown, but he found two members of his family in the Paramount Pack and lived with them.
I didn’t bother to read the rest because I was aware of what happened from there. There were four other manila folders. Two for his parents, one for himself, and one for my sister. His mate.
Celeste must have known him from when they were both rogues. They could have even been in the same pack. The only question was- what made Celeste so scared of him? What could he have possibly done to make Celeste scared to the point where she froze?
From how long I have known Celeste she hasn’t cried at much. Yes, she gets scared of many things but not to the point where she freezes. Whatever it was, he better hope that my sister can protect him because she may be the only person to stand between his throat and my claws.
Alpha, one of my pack members voices went through my head.
What is it? I asked. I’m a bit busy right now.
The Luna, their voice sounded a bit scared. As if they were afraid to go on. I was afraid for them to go one. Was Celeste okay?
What’s wrong with her?
She’s freaking out.
Where? My wolf was howling in my head for me to find her.
The entertainment room. Hurry, Alpha. Even though most of them only met her yesterday they still feel attached to her. She is their Luna, the mother to the entire pack. They would have all felt a slight connection to her the moment they realized she was my mate. They will feel even more connected to her once I have marked her.
I quickly get up and sprint out of my office and down the stairs towards the entertainment room. When I got there I saw at least thirty pack members surrounding the sight of Celeste trembling on the ground. She had her knees to her chest and her hands were in her hair as she tugged at it.
I quickly went to her and picked her up in my arms. She immediately relaxed and turned around in my arms. She wrapped her arms around my neck and breathed in my scent. She snuggled her head into my neck and sighed in relief.
“Are you okay little one?” I looked around at the pack members who surrounded us, waiting for Celeste’s response.
“I’m fine. I just- I just thought that you had left me. I was actually starting to like it here and then when I woke up without you I thought you didn’t want me. I tried to find you. I tried to follow your scent but all the scents got mixed up. I couldn’t follow it and I was scared.” I wanted to smile with joy when she said that she actually liked it her but that vanished when she thought I didn’t want her.
“Of course I want you little one,” I whispered. “You’re my mate, my Luna, my everything. And look at all these people here. They barely even know you and yet they are all worried sick for you. So please, little one, don’t be worried.”
“I’m sorry.” Celeste lifted her head up to look at all of the people and smiled slightly. She then buried her head into my chest.
“Come with me little one.”
“No, I’m comfortable.” I chuckled as I heard a few mumbles about how good we were for each other and how cute we were. I was comfortable here as well. Sparks were going all throughout my body and Celeste’s tiny form being cradled in my arms was making my wolf purr.
“Then I’ll carry you.” I stood up and she wrapped her legs around my waist. The pack members moved out of our way.
I walked upstairs back to my office, knowing that I still had work to get done. I opened my office door and went to sit at my desk. Before Celeste could see them I put Christopher’s files in my desk drawer.
“What are we doing?” I opened up another file about renewing treaties.
“I am doing some paperwork. Would you like to learn some things about being a Luna?” She turned around in my lap, facing the desk. She opened the file and looked over the things listed. I noticed that it took her a bit to get to the bottom of the page but I didn’t mind.
“I think I should. I’m planning on staying around.”
