Next Chapter >> Katherine's POV

I left the office about ten minutes later. I didn't even try to look for the so-called intern; she would have been gone by the time I reached my office. In any case, I had this feeling deep down inside that told me it was one of Xavier's informants or spies. Not that I cared; on the contrary, I felt a bit safer with her around, and at least I had someone here who would have my back.

I pressed the elevator call button and waited for the elevator to arrive.

The office area was deserted; everyone had gone home, and for once, everything looked a bit more intimidating than usual.

The elevator signaled its arrival; the doors opened, and I stepped in, pushed the floor number, and the doors closed before me. My mind replayed the scene between me and Erika earlier that day as I took the short trip down toward reception. I still couldn't believe she was so clever. I crossed my arms around my waist, feeling a bit annoyed. I knew she was planning something, yet I fell for her trap.

I huffed, annoyed at John's suggestion to go home; did he really believe I would just drop everything because of her?

Was I so naive when my parents were still alive?

The elevator bell yelled my arrival, and my gaze snapped toward the silver doors, opening to the reception area.

I headed to the turnstiles, seeing security sitting at reception, and he waved at me.

I nodded my head and kindly smiled at him, yet my gaze fell on someone sitting and waiting in the reception area.

Of course, I thought the company employees had left.

I took a few steps closer, only able to see the back of the person sitting and reading an old magazine.

"Excuse me, sir," I said, not sure if it was someone's mate, a customer, or someone who was sitting and waiting, "but the company is closed. Is there something I can help you with?"

"Luna, hi! Uhm!" He said this, jumped to his feet, and brushed his hand nervously through his hair.

"Greyson?" I gasped, surprised. "What are you doing here? Are you waiting for Kelly?"

I turned my gaze toward the reception area, where Kelly usually sat, but she wasn't there.

"Uhm, no, Luna," he said, looking a bit anxious and worried.

"Then why are you here?" I asked and lifted an eyebrow.

"I know this is short notice, but I forgot to let you know that Alpha made dinner reservations for you two," I answered, scratching the back of his head.

"I guess as punishment, Xavier sent you to fetch me?" I asked and lifted an eyebrow at him.

"Something like that," he answered, and he shifted his weight.

Yet I could tell that Greyson wasn't being honest.

"He doesn't know, does he?" I asked and watched Greyson's face.

Yet again, he shifted nervously and sighed.

"No," he answered embarrassedly, "Alpha Xavier will kick my butt if he knows I have forgotten about the reservation."

"Well, then we had better leave before we are late," I suggested, gesturing to Greyson that we needed to go.

"Yes, yes, yes," Greyson said, bewildered. He grabbed his car keys from where he was sitting and rushed toward the door.

When we eventually arrived at the hotel, I followed Greyson to a private room we usually use and found Xavier already waiting, standing at the window, overlooking the ocean.

I thanked Greyson, and he left.

"Xavier," I called, and Xavier turned around, searching my gaze. He opened his arms for me and I didn't hesitate and rushed toward him, snaking my arms around his waist and taking his scent in. "Seems like you had a hard day at work?" He asked, and I lifted my gaze.

I gestured with a small nod of my head and pushed my head back onto his rock-hard chest.

Xavier brushed his hand over my hair, and I closed my eyes, inhaling his intoxicating scent.

Goddess, this was heaven, and his smell was soothing and recharging my body.

I sighed in contentment before I let go of him.

"Come on," he said with a teasing smile, "you should be starving."

We took our seats at the table, and Xavier handed me a menu.

"I am assuming all the directors in the company have met for a meeting today," Xavier asked after the waiter left, taking our order.

"How do you know about the meeting?" I asked. Many paragraphs are missing. Read the complete book on FindNovel.c(o)m. Was it Xavier who sent the notification to me?

Xavier's face turned cold, yet his eyes reflected warmth toward me.

"Kelly sent you the notification to attend the meeting," Xavier said, shaking his head. "This assistant of yours, Sarah, or whatever her name is, deliberately did not add the board meeting time to the schedule, just to ensure you didn't attend the meeting." "Then how do you know what time and date the meeting was?" I asked.

The waiter returned with our food and placed my plate of food on the table.

"You have a thing called the intranet at work," Xavier continued, sounding a bit annoyed, and I quickly recalled John saying something about it earlier.

"I am surprised that you don't have a user account, especially for someone like you who is constantly on different social media platforms. In any case, the King Group intranet publishes all the dates and times of all the meetings there. All the information can be gained through that little program. This is why John didn't tell you that there was an intranet, for fear that you might find something or know too much."

Xavier was unbelievable; who would have thought that he knew I wasn't connected?

My stomach suddenly growled like a rogue wolf, and I blushed out of embarrassment.

Xavier chuckled with the napkin in his hand.

"I think you should eat before you have me for dinner, Little Wolf."

My gaze moved over Xavier, and suddenly I felt overwhelmed.

"Thank you for your help, Xavier," I said. "When everything is done and I have the truth, I will transfer the shares to you as agreed."

As soon as the words left my lips, Xavier placed his utensils on his plate and paused. A trace of loneliness flashed in his eyes.

"Is that how little you think of me?" he asked bitterly, but before I could say anything to defend myself, Xavier cut me off and continued. "Okay," he said, his eyes hard and cold, "just don't forget to write the shares over to me!"
