Her Forever
Chapter 49

Sadie

It was that cliche’, ‘and the entire room went still,’ moment. Everything came to a halt as Gaia spoke those words of “my turn.” She meant every word, every single letter of the phrase. She was pissed. I never knew what anger was until she came into my life. I tried to see the good in others, which I still do. Gaia had another thought in her mind that brought me to light. This man and woman kept us from the one person who could calm us, protect us, give us unconditional love and affection. The man that was our forever, and I had sat back and watched as Drago kept me from him. Too afraid to move, to breathe, almost giving up.

Gaia was the spark I needed, the spark of the extra passion of the fight. Had I always loved Seth? Of course, I have, and there was no doubt about that. The one thing I realized I missed was the intensity, the drive, but most of all, the ability to physically fight my own battles. Maybe this is why I never had my wolf, to know the feeling of vulnerability. To know that the weak need the strong to protect them. I’ve felt weak the past few weeks, even though I had my studly strong mate, but I knew I was something more.

I was human, I truly was, but now I’m something more powerful. I’m the girl that grew up humbly that looked at life a little bit differently. I smelled the roses, didn’t take life for granted. I was stronger, not just for myself, but for who I was going to become. I was going to help lead a community with Seth and now my parents’ kingdom. Keeping the compassion and love that I had for life was now only amplified by the sheer strength of a wolf that I had been blessed with.

These pathetic pieces of trash were gonna pay, and I was going to let Gaia do what she wanted.

Particles of dust flew in front of my vision as Gaia howled a cry which could only be determined as a battle cry. My bones broke, and hair was growing from my body at lightning speed. My nose became a snout, and my teeth elongated into something lethal. Hands turning to paws and my nails turning to claws that scratch the hardwood floor gave me a shiver of completion. If this transformation took longer than the few seconds that it actually just took, I might have just died of pain.

The jowls of our mouth went up and over our teeth as a long ferocious growl vibrated through our body. Drago and Anana stood in disturbance while my heavy breathing became even. Gaia was waiting, waiting for them to make a move. She was the predator, and she was going to have the prey. Our eyes never left the two evils in the room. We paced around their still bodies as they continued to measure the situation.

“I thought you said she didn’t have a second bite! I told you this wouldn’t work. He had put his venom in her already!” Anana seethed, darting her eyes to Drago.

“There was no second bite, you useless witch! I checked! Not unless he did it all in one go!! No one does that! It could have killed her!” Drago side-eyed me as I started growling again, saliva dripping from our fangs. I gave a quick wink and his confused demeanor turned to absolute fury. We took one, two steps to the side to show we meant business. They took a few steps back and backed right into the kitchen table with nowhere to go.

Anana gasped, “she’s royalty. No wonder it didn’t kill her! She has the same marking on her chest! You are a f*****g i***t! You should have told me!” she shouted.

Gaia had enough listening, and Anana was done with the situation. Anana bolted to the living room for her bag of sorcery. Dashing to her, Gaia quickly sank her teeth into her right leg, and she let an ear-piercing scream into the air. Having Anana immobilized, Gaia felt Drago approaching. She felt his dark presence. With his vampire senses and speed, he tried to grab us from behind. Gaia was swift and agile, and our small stature aided us in jumping through his arms and recovering hastily. We gave prompt turns, causing our claws to grip the floor for traction.

“You will not leave this cottage. Even if you can’t take my mark, I can still keep you from him!” He raged. Gaia was not liking his answer, so she sprang from where she was standing so that her jaw landed on his shoulder. Hearing rips of skin, the smell of black b***d dripping on the old wooden floors, and the cracking of bones would have made me sick if I was still in human form. Gaia reveled in it. It fueled her fire when he screamed, and at the thought we would never see our mate again.

Drago used his strength to pry our jaw from his shoulder and slam us to the floor. A small whimper left our body as Drago came over and pick us off the floor. He had one arm around our torso when Gaia snapped up, only to masticate his forearm. The grinding she made with the bone made Drago scream in frustration while trying to shake us from our ferocious grip. I almost smiled when we finally let go. Drago was running out of steam. He hadn’t left the cabin in days and hadn’t fed.

Gaia, ever being on alert, circled him, waiting to see what he would do. Drago growled, and his claws grew to a length that almost looked painful. His eyes were red, and teeth elongated as the same length as mine. If horns grew out of his forehead, I don’t think it would have surprised me. He was in full beast mode; it was time to step up our game.

“Gaia, I hope we have some friends somewhere helping us out,” I said with uncertainty.

“Oh, ye of little faith!” Gaia sassed back.

“Just keeping you grounded,” I chuckled.

Gaia ran through an idea in our head before she enforced it. With an internal nod from me, she executed. Instead of jumping to the danger, she jumped to the side and ran around the room in circles around Drago. Drago was becoming confused at or odd behavior. Furniture was toppling over, the wind was blowing past him, and he finally took a swipe. His long claws grazed our side, and while his claws were finishing the job, with a sharp jolt of a turn, we embedded our jaws into his neck.

Drago gasped at the shock of us having him at our mercy. He continued to claw down our sides, leaving splatters of b***d on the floor. His b***d and mine ran together, to the point we didn’t know who was worse off.

The flesh from his neck ripped into shreds as he tried to pry me off his body. My claws held onto his chest to anchor ourselves further into the body.

I was hoping for him to be sorry, to surrender, to give up, and realize what he was doing. In the end, he was just a sick and demented vampire. Without Gaia, I’m not sure I would have had the courage to do what we both decided in that instant. Another loud crunch, and he stopped moving. Both his arms flopped down and hit the floor. His body was still gargantuan next to my wolf’s body. How we could get him to the floor and under our compact frame, I will never understand.

While processing what we had done, we didn’t notice the throng of people that were standing at the door. What a sight, I’m sure we were. A witch howling in pain on the floor like the pansy she was and me holding Drago in my maw. My breath became burdensome while some of Drago’s b***d continued to drop to the floor.

There were warriors standing at attention but not ready to attack, and they stood in a regal form, just watching, waiting. Wolves had scattered across the room, sitting on the hindquarters, watching in anticipation with a tilt of their head. Almost looking like overgrown puppies. Seth stood tall, hands in fists, his mighty stance and bare chest showing his tattoos in all his glory. He wasn’t worried; in fact, he looked like he was admiring me, taking me all in for what I and my wolf were worth. For being one of the most feared warriors of his time, his eyes told me something very different about him—his ability to love and show the same compassion I had. Mating and marking may really have intertwined our souls. He gave me some of his fierceness, while I gave him some of my mercy.

As tasty, as handsome, and as much love I had for this man, there were two others in the room I didn’t recognize that demanded my inner conscience’s attention. Their presence demanded attention but was foreign to me. My wolf knew they were important. The woman was a bit shorter than the man; she had dark hair that resembled mine, her eyes were soft and inviting brown, and a small smile graced her lips as she held hands with the much male beside her. As much power as he was radiating, his face was warm, and his beard looked soft instead of the ruggedness you would normally see. Out of everyone in the room, he showed the most teeth in his smile, and his eyes showed a bit of moisture in them.

The couple standing there, watching me with adoring eyes, seems familiar, yet not. It was like we had known each other in another life, or possibly a dream. It would have been a pleasant dream if that were the case; I’m sure I’d never place them.

All the energy that I had used to fight off a defeated King Drago and transforming into this powerful wolf was making me tired. My eyes were drooping and fighting gravity, and my maw was becoming exceedingly slacking in strength. I’ve felt this feeling before, the feeling of falling and slowly having darkness blanket you into some immortalizing cocoon.

“Seth,” I mind-linked. “I’m so tired….”

“Mate…” Gaia spoke quietly. It seems she felt tired too.

Once my eyes closed, I couldn’t hear anything or anyone. I just saw our mate running towards us to catch our falling wolf form.
