Encore of the Avenging Muse (Sylvia and Rupert) -
Chapter 90
Sylvia's words were barely a whisper, her eyes brimming with tears.
Just moments ago, her roommate had been fired up with indignation, but now they quickly shifted their demeanor.
Helena choked up, "Sylvia, don't be like this. We'll work closely with the doctors, and I'm sure you'll get better soon."
"Exactly, the doctors here are top-notch. You've got to believe in them and yourself," added Julia, covering her face, unable to bear the sight.
Billie remained silent, her emotions unspoken but clear as she discreetly wiped away her tears.
Freya, seeing their gloom, guessed that the prognosis for Sylvia's eyes must be grim. Blowing her nose, she clung to Sylvia tightly, her slender frame shaking with sobs. "Sylvia, I refuse to believe this! You're going to be alright!"
Anyone watching the scene would be convinced of the deep affection Freya held for Sylvia. But Sylvia knew better. Freya's embrace was merely to hide her schadenfreude. Indeed, Freya was smiling inside, secretly wishing Sylvia would end up blind.
However, Freya's smile quickly faded.
Sylvia patted Freya's back, her voice tinged with concern. "Freya, I'm fine. But I heard from someone at college that you fell into the toilet. How could you be so careless?" Freya stiffened, her face a whirlwind of emotions. To make matters worse, the doctor and nurse who had just entered to check on Sylvia overheard everything. Helena's gaze on Freya was sharp, as if dissecting her on the spot.
Unaware of their audience, Sylvia continued, "Freya, how could you be so careless, falling on poop? Luckily, you're alright. Just be more careful next time."
The image of an adult falling into a squat toilet was amusing enough on its own. But to fall into her own excrement? That was the icing on the cake.
One of the nurses couldn't hold back and snickered. The leading doctor, fighting to maintain professional decorum, turned red but managed to keep his composure. Freya, embarrassed, her face flushed, stammered, "I... I'm just lactose intolerant, that's why I had diarrhea."
Sylvia nodded. "Oh, I see. I thought you ate something bad."
Freya's face went from red to pale, her hands clenching tightly as she fixed her gaze on Sylvia. It took a moment, but once Freya was sure Sylvia was clueless, she quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
Sylvia, ever so gullible, couldn't possibly know about the sabotage of the milk on the day of the competition. It was sheer luck that Sylvia had avoided disaster! Freya composed herself, changing the subject. "Sylvia, let's not talk about this. Let the doctor check you first."
"Sure."
Sylvia calmly allowed the doctor to examine her eyes.
Freya was more eager than the doctor, almost wishing she could inspect Sylvia's eyes herself.
As soon as the doctor finished, Freya immediately asked, "Doctor, can my friend's eyes be saved?"
Before the doctor could respond,
Sylvia interjected, "Doctor, I know my situation is complicated. I just want to know if actively cooperating with the treatment will allow me to
recover my sight?" FindNovel
The doctor reassured, "Your main issue is the emotional stress. Keep a
positive mindset in the next few
days, and try not to get too worked up. I'm optimistic about the treatment's effectiveness, but remember, it's also up to you."
Doctors always spoke in ambiguities, never committing to a definite prognosis.
"Thank you," Sylvia said with a sigh of relief, her gratitude evident."There's still hope, thankfully."
After the doctor left, Freya, who had been full of questions earlier, stood aside, head bowed, lost in thought.
After a moment, Freya approached the bed, looking at Sylvia timidly. "Sylvia, actually, I came here because I've got some good news to share with you." "What is it?"
