Breathing heavily yet covered in a cold sweat, Sylvia managed to stammer, "My, my hand..."

Rupert, who had suddenly stopped, was panting heavily. It took a few throbbing pulses in his neck before he managed to prop himself up and lift her hand.

But then, Sylvia suddenly turned, wrapping herself tightly in the comforter.

Playing tricks, huh?

Rupert paused for a moment but didn't get irked. Instead, he lay down next to the "burrito", reaching out to wrap both the person and the comforter tightly in his arms.

Lying on his side and propping his head, he whispered huskily into her ear, "How many times do you think you can hide?"

Sylvia wanted to retort, but her body just wouldn't allow it. The effort earlier had drained what little energy she had left.

At that moment, Rupert's voice seemed to grow distant until she fell into complete darkness. Late into the night, the fever that Sylvia had been fighting off returned with a vengeance, leaving her in a delirious state.

If Rupert had tried anything, she wouldn't have been able to resist.

But he didn't.

Instead, all through the night, she felt someone continuously touching her forehead. She thought she might be delusional from her illness, or maybe it was a deep-seated desire from the past life to be cared for that led to her hallucinations.

The next morning as she woke up, Rupert was not by her side. Clutching her stomach and desperate to use the bathroom, she rushed into the direction without a second thought. "Whoa!"

Sylvia was so startled by the sight that greeted her, she almost forgot her urgency.

Rupert was taking a shower.

She immediately turned to run out, but just then, the bedroom door swung open, and she instinctively shut the bathroom door.

Bridget's voice came from outside.

"Rupert, I've brought you breakfast. Are you up?"

Sylvia bit her lip, neither daring to open the door nor to look back. She tried to hide in the steam, hoping to make herself less noticeable.

But then, the heat from behind told her that what was inevitable had come.

Wet arms braced against the door from behind, trapping her in a tight corner.

Sylvia's body jolted. Her not fully recovered body almost couldn't stand straight.

The man behind her wrapped his arms around her waist, his hot chest pressing against her back. Soon, the only layer separating them also became wet, as if there was no barrier at all.

Sylvia couldn't help but remember the words she had heard in her dazed state the night before.

"How many times do you think you can hide?"

Panicking for a moment, she immediately turned around to block the encroaching body.

She pressed her voice down, "Uncle!" Hoping it would bring back some of his senses.

Then she reminded him, "Bridget's here with your breakfast. You should go out first. This is...inconvenient."

Maybe it was the high temperature in the bathroom, but a blush crept up Sylvia's usually pale cheeks. Though she was considered a burden, Edwin and Naomi had always treated her exceptionally well. Edwin would share his best things with her, even getting her and Naomi beauty salon memberships when he heard other families' daughters had them. Naomi often dragged her along, and over time, Sylvia's skin became exceptionally well-cared for, soft and tender.

Though not as exaggerated as immaculate, her skin has no obvious flaw, giving off a translucent glow under the light. Irresistibly tempting.

Rupert's gaze darkened, his breathing growing heavier as he pressed Sylvia closer. He darkly asked, "What's inconvenient about it?"

Sylvia glared at him. "You tell me?" she murmured to herself. Their current situation was inconvenient in every way!

Rupert's hand, pressed against the door, slowly moved down from Sylvia's neck, sliding over her wet back. The fabric might as well have been non-existent.

His warm palm felt as though it was directly caressing her back, sending her mind into a whirl.
