Dragon Master novel Maximilian -
Chapter 602 Hesitation
Amira didn't catch Maximilian's words, but nodded with hesitation.
Seeing her confused expression, Maximilian petted on his shoulder and said, "We will see the final price."
The third round of auction came quickly. The screen showed the reserve price of the bracelet at 100,000 dollars.
People were surprised by such a low price. Euan frowned and wondered why the sponsor was so generous.
The situation went as Maximilian expected. As the reserve price was low, many people continued to add the price. Hence, the price rose dramatically from one hundred thousand to thirty-five hundred thousand dollars.
Was thirty-five hundred thousand a fair deal? Well, actually it was. Although this bracelet was not a genuine, some beads might be.
Maximilian estimated those genuine aloes beads valued from thirty hundred thousand to forty hundred thousand dollars.
It was a fair price considering there was masters among the bidders and someone might find something wrong with the bracelet.
However, someone suddenly called for a higher price, 390,000 dollars when Maximilian thought this round was finished. The one who offered the price was Euan, who already showed his interest in this bracelet at the very beginning of this round.
Euan frowned, bit his lips, and showed a serious look. It could be seen that he was uncertain about this price.
The price of 390,000 dollars was acceptable, as it was still within the estimated price range. However, someone suddenly bid for a much higher price at 500,000 dollars.
Well, there were indeed lots of rich men in the world, Maximilian thought.
Euan took a deep breath and through the bidding device on the table. After a short time, he calmed down and showed an expression as if he didn't care about it.
Finally, the aloes bracelet deal ended at the price of 500,000 dollars.
Now, the last round came.
However, Pearce announced a twenty minutes break to arise people's interest.
Maximilian called Euan to have a walk with him during the break. They came to the corridor on the second floor outside the auction room.
Euan asked first, "Why do you call me out?"
Maximilian lit a cigarette and asked him when blowing the smoke.
"I want to ask your opinions about the previous items?"
"Well, I will talk to you if that's what you want to know. Anyway, we have a really long break.”
Euan didn't feel anything strange when Maximilian was probing.
"Then let's talk about that ink painting first. I think you have discovered there is something wrong with it."
"Well, it's a nice painting. We can tell the painter's high skills from it. It must value more as time goes and it's a good deal for the buyer."
Maximilian turned around and looked at Euan with a weird look, and then he continued,
"However, comparing with that painting, what interests me more is how you can get so much information by simply watching it with your eyes?"
Euan knew what Maximilian was curious about and asked rhetorically.
"Well, I remember you haven't used the magnifying glass when you're on stage."
They looked at each other and both burst out laughing.
"I still have a question. Do you think the bronze horse you just bought worth the price?"
Euan said firmly.
"Definitely! It's a genuine one!"
"Are you sure? I have seen many fake bronze horses. However, the one presented today is really different. Can I ask from which angle do you think it looks the best?"
Maximilian tried to recall.
"I think it looks best when you watch it from the top."
Euan snapped his fingers and pointed at Maximilian when replying.
"Right! Nowadays, many people tend to manufacture fake ones that were perfect when you're looking at them from all angles. And that's why I can tell which one is genuine from this. Only soldiers and generals with particular feats won this honor. Hence, when carving it, the makers focus more on the angle when people are watching it from above to express the honored men's prestige. We can also find the related descriptions from ancient literatures. That's why I think it is worthy of fifty hundred thousand dollars."
After saying this, Euan opened his palm and showed his five fingers.
He was good at analyzing at such a young age. Maximilian admired him more because of it.
"Well, I finally understand. Can I call you an expert?"
Euan waved his hand and showed a proud look.
"Well, what else do you want to know?"
Maximilian suddenly thought of that aloes bracelet and asked, "Let's talk about that bracelet. I find you're very interested in it. How come you give up in the end?"
"Well..." Euan frown. He thought for a while and then said, "Yes, indeed, I was interested in it at first. However, I noticed something wrong when seeing the reserve price. Besides, people stopped adding price when it reached thirty hundred thousand dollars. That's so weird. Although I couldn't tell what was wrong with that bracelet, it was a right decision to give it up.”
Maximilian thought it was time for him to lecture him.
"Actually, you're right. I can simply tell you, it might be a hybrid and you might understand."
Euan clapped his hands, opened his eyes wide and understood what he meant.
"Well, that's it! I think it values more that the reserve price from the quantity. You are so good at distinguishing it, Maximilian."
Maximilian smiled and thought he couldn't let this man look down upon him.
"You're an expert too. You can see it is half-fake and half-genuine simply by the word 'hybrid'."
"Well, I don't know. Maybe the bidder works closely with the sponsor!"☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
