Hugh laughed. "I thought you could make some significant progress with my sister."

Donald scolded his son. "You're the only one with bad ideas. Don't drag Kevin to your level. Kevin is a gentleman. Your mother and I have a good eye for people." They appreciated Kevin as soon as they saw him and genuinely wanted to turn him into their son-in-law.

Unexpectedly, Old Mrs. York had a good eye too, and had already taken a fancy to their daughter without their knowledge.

Ever since they found out that their daughter was the wife whom Old Mrs. York chose for Kevin, Donald and Sophia genuinely treated Kevin as their son-in-law.

They also felt that Old Mrs. York was a good matchmaker.

Hayden was taciturn and had a serious personality, so she should be matched with a talkative person like Kevin. That way, when it was too quiet in the future, Kevin would be able to make conversation, so the couple had things to talk about.

"Dad, I'm also a gentleman, okay?"

Hugh was upset.

He felt that he was also a gentleman.

In any case, he had never taken advantage of girls before.

"I don't know if you are but people outside see you as a philanderer. Others only ask for your sister when they come to me to ask for marriage. You're no worse than your sister appearance-wise, and you're also remarkable in all aspects, but no one asks for your hand in marriage.

"If a person truly cares for their daughter, would they care that you're the second young master? It's because you have so many close female friends and ladies around you all day. Who would dare to marry their daughter to you?"

Donald nagged his son.

Sophia chimed in, "If you have someone you like, then settle down with her. Stop playing around with other girls. It'll be difficult for you to find a wife in the future if you ruin your reputation.

"Also, don't woo every female celebrity that's famous, and be close to them. Although you say they're just close friends, these are stuff between a man and woman. Would people believe you when the rumors start?

"Serves you right if you can't get a wife."

Hugh was speechless. "I-I really just think of them as close friends."

His female friends had their unique characteristics and strengths. He appreciated them, but he did not have any romantic feelings for them. Although he had a lot of close female friends, he kept a certain distance from them and would never do stuff like wrap his arm around their shoulders or hug them.

"Who would believe you? Why don't you go and find out what your reputation is? People think you're a philanderer who chases after every skirt you see." Hugh was speechless.

He remembered that his sister always wanted to hook him up with Caroline, but Caroline did not like him because she thought he was a playboy.

He was not a playboy. His close female friends were just friends to him, and he did not care if they thought of him as just a friend as well.

However, if the other party developed feelings and wanted to take the relationship to the next level, he would distance himself from that person.

Over time, all those female friends realized that they could only be just friends with Hugh. No one could become his lover.

Hugh, who was seemingly a playboy, was not easy to win over.

Kevin smiled. "You know yourself best, Hugh. When you meet a girl who's still devoted to you despite knowing that you have many friends of the opposite sex, then you have to cherish her because it means that she's really in love with you."

"Nothing I say can clear my name."

Hugh smiled wryly.

He picked up the glass of water in front of him and drank it.

His expression was as if he had been wronged.

"I'm also going to bed. I'm upset now."

He put down his glass, got up, and left.

Donald said, "We've only made a few remarks, but he refused to admit it and got upset."

Kevin looked at the time and said to the old couple, "It's late now. You two should go to sleep too. I'll clean up here."

"Kevin, the guest room is ready for you. You can just head to your room and rest later. Good night."

Donald spoke to his prospective son-in-law and went back into the house with his wife.

Kevin was elated.

He tidied up the table in the yard and went into the house happily.

Hayden saw all this from her window. Although she did not know what her parents and brother said to Kevin, she guessed that it had to do with her.
