Chapter 738 Self-Defence Is Not Punishable By Law

The policemen stood in their way, preventing them from reaching the gate. "Mr. Shao, we have orders to carry out. Your wife is a suspect, and she needs to come with us. You don't want to add the obstruction of justice to her list." One of them took out a pair of handcuffs, and walked towards Ella.

Samuel side-stepped the policeman yet again, pushing Ella behind him. Looking at the two policemen, he asked frostily, "Which bureau do you work in?"

"Municipal bureau." One of the men replied. His voice dripped with smugness.

Samuel frowned. It wasn't going to be a simple matter to solve as he had thought. Retrieving his phone, he made a call, "Secretary Liu, I'm in trouble here. Please ask Chief Liao to answer the phone." Chief Liao? When they heard their boss' name, one of the policemen drew back from handcuffing Ella.

The flight they planned to take had already taken off when Samuel and Chief Liao were on the phone.

But Ella's attention was focused on what was going on, so she didn't notice that the plane had taken off.

Samuel hung up and looked solemnly at the plane through a window. He felt sad that they weren't going on their honeymoon today.

The two policemen waited impatiently. Suddenly, one of the policeman's phone rang. "Captain Qin... Well, all right. I see."

After the phone call, they left.

Samuel left the airport with Ella. There was an open case that mentioned Ella as a suspect. Therefore they had to call off the honeymoon, to clear her name.

"Samuel, is it true that Catherine died on that day?"

Samuel stroked her long hair gently and said, "We'll be fine, trust me."

Even if they found out, Samuel wasn't afraid. What Ella had done was legitimate self-defence. Self-defence was not punishable by law.

After they emerged from the airport, his phone rang. When he saw the caller ID, he sobered down.

"Hello, Director Xue."

"I see. I'll be my wife's attorney and accept all inquiries."

"Yes. Please relax. Thank you very much, Director Xue. Hope to have dinner with you next time."

"All right. Bye!"

Then they got in a taxi and went back home.

When Samuel was on the phone, Ella logged on to Weibo. As expected, the news had already been posted on the internet. The headline read, 'Ella was arrested by police at the airport on suspicion of murder." There was a clear picture of them beneath the headline. Though Samuel was wearing sunglasses, it was not difficult to recognise him. No-one could doubt the photo's authenticity.

Ella perused through her social media, trying to keep her mind off what was happening. A couple of minutes later, she received a call from Eden.

"Ella, what happened?" Eden was on a date with his girlfriend when he saw the news that Ella was a suspect. As her agent, he stopped everything he was doing and contacted her. "I'm not sure as well. I'll call you later."

"Did you kill anyone?"

"I don't know..."

After bringing their luggage upstairs, Samuel took Ella to the cinema to watch a movie.

As they watched the movies, Ella's mind wandered off. Noticing how distracted she was, Samuel held her hand and said, "Don't worry. Trust me. I'll help you get through this."

He tried to comfort her but deep down. He was afraid that if she knew Catherine was dead, she would completely shut down.

For all the crimes that Catherine had committed, dying was such an easy way out. She deserved a lot more pain than she had received.

"Considering her crimes, legally, you're absolved of any crime. Self-defence is not punishable by law. The law states that whoever commits an act of defence against a violent crime that is, murder, homicide, robbery, kidnapping, or any other crimes that seriously endanger personal safety or cause injury or death to an unlawful offender, shall not be deemed to be excessively defensive and shall not bear criminal responsibility.

The situation you were in at that time meets all the legal preconditions. You needn't worry about it."

Hearing the professional explanation from Samuel, Ella understood and nodded.

Samuel just hoped that Ella knew that she wouldn't be held liable for anything. And she needn't worry about going to jail.

In fact, Ella didn't regret killing Catherine, if she was indeed dead. However, She still feared being imprisoned.

Samuel made her lean on his shoulder and said, "Don't be afraid. Your situation was in line with what I just said. Even if it was not in line with the law or you had really committed a crime, you must believe in your husband. I will guarantee that you would be fine."

What kind of lawyer would he be if he couldn't solve this problem?

After they walked out of the cinema, Ella immediately contacted Daisy and sent Jerry and Jane to her new taekwondo gym.
