CEO's Tears Over Pregnancy Test Discovery -
Chapter 1649
"I still have something to take care of tonight, just a quick trip. I'll be back early tomorrow morning," Ben explained.
"Almost married, and you're still such a workaholic?" Mrs. Lucas sighed.
Ben glanced at Jamie. "The client in T City insisted on a meeting. It's been scheduled for a while, and I can't cancel."
Jamie smiled gracefully. "Go ahead then. The sooner you leave, the sooner you'll be back. Just be careful."
"Gonna miss me?" Ben teased, a playful glint in his eyes.
"Stop it. Of course not," Jamie replied, tugging at the corner of her mouth in exasperation.
As she walked him out, Ben looked around to make sure no one was watching before leaning down to press a quick kiss to her forehead. "Wait for me."
Jamie shook her head, amused, and nodded lightly. "Alright."
*
The trip was short, just about an hour away. Ben had barely checked into his hotel when there was a knock at the door. A waiter stood outside, holding a tray with two glasses of wine.
"A complimentary treat for our anniversary celebration-premium vintage wine for our guests to enjoy," the waiter announced politely.
"Come in," Ben said, his sharp gaze briefly assessing the man before he allowed him inside. A faint, unreadable smile appeared on his lips. "Anniversary celebration, huh? Why aren't there any posters or advertisements for it outside?"
The waiter hesitated for a moment before forcing a smile. "We haven't had a chance to put them up yet. Please enjoy."
Ben didn't press further and watched as the waiter left. He shut the door, placed the tray on the table, and lay down on the bed.
*
In the middle of the night, faint shuffling sounds came from the door.
Ben's instincts kicked in, and his eyes snapped open. Someone was already entering the room.
He turned on the light, catching the intruder off guard. The figure froze in place.
Ben's brows furrowed as he recognized her. "Summer?"
Summer closed her eyes briefly, her resolve hardening. She guessed the drug's effect would kick in soon. With a swift movement, she let her silk robe slide off, revealing a low-cut camisole that clung to her curvy figure.
She stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Ben, her voice low and sultry. "Ben, I know you're uncomfortable. Let me help you." Ben's expression turned icy as he grabbed her wrist and pulled her away forcefully.
"What are you trying to do, Summer?"
"I'm the one who should be your fiancée, Ben! I love you. Don't leave me!" Summer clung to him desperately, trying to press herself closer. Ben's grip tightened as he shoved her away, his voice cold and sharp. "How did you even get in here?"
Summer glanced toward the table and saw the untouched glass of wine still sitting there. Realization dawned on her that he hadn't taken a sip.
Following her gaze, Ben's expression darkened. "You drugged the wine, didn't you? Summer, you've crossed the line. Don't blame me for what happens next." Panicking, Summer lunged toward the table to destroy the evidence, but Ben reacted faster. He pushed her aside and immediately called the police.
"Do you really have to be this
heartless to me?" Summer cried,
tears streaming down her face. I've stayed by your side all these years, and you're throwing me away just like that! Why?"
She had once believed that as long as she remained loyal and obedient, Ben would eventually see her as perfect Woman to marry. But she never anticipated that even Mrs. Lucas, who had once supported her, would accept Jamie as her
daughter-in-law.
Now, Summer had nothing.
Instead of standing by and watching them get married, she thought it was better to take a gamble. If they ended up crossing the line, Jamie would never go through with marrying him.
