Chapter 33

A few days later, on a Monday. Every Monday was Sienna’s fixed day off, as it was the day when Maze had the least customer traffic.

With some free time, Sienna went to visit Miranda. Miranda had improved significantly, was fully conscious, and her bodily functions were gradually returning to normal.

Sienna, along with the nurse, helped Miranda get up from the bed and wheeled her out into the courtyard to bask in the sun.

“Sienna, Miranda held Sienna’s hand and sighed, this time, you’ve worked hard”

“Not at all. Sienna shook her head with a faint smile. “It’s all part of what I should do,”

Miranda paned her hand, her eyes reddening as she choked out, “I remember your kindness. The one thing Grandma regrets the most is leaving you alone, all by yourself. for the past four years…”

Sienna quickly pulled out a tissue and wiped her tears. “It’s all in the past, I’m fine now, don’t worry.”

Miranda nodded, smiling. “As long as I’m here, you will always be Josiah’s wife.”

Hearing this, Sienna’s expression became a bit unnatural, she decided that the matter between her and Josiah would be resolved by herself.

Sienna squatted down and massaged Miranda’s calf. “I’m off today, and I’ll stay here with you tonight, how about that?”

“Really? That’s wonderful,” Miranda said

The nurse came out from inside, holding Miranda’s phone. “Miranda, your phone is ringing.

“Oh, okay” Miranda took a look and saw that it was Josiah calling

“Grandma,” Josiah sand

“What is it?” Miranda asked, “Aren’t you at Yarrowdale! If you’re busy, you don’t need to check in with me.”

“Alright, Grandma,” Josiah replied with a mix of laughter and helplessness, “but I’m not calling to say hello this time. Could you have someone check if there’s a leather bag left there?”

Lately, he had been spending his nights here, inevitably bringing work to handle, and it was quite possible that he had left is behind.

Upon hearing this, Miranda’s expression immediately became serious. “Is it something you need for today!”

“Yes, for the meeting tonight. Please help me look for it, Josiah said.

“Sure.” Miranda, in her youth, was also a strong woman who never took her career lightly. She moved the phone away and looked at Sien “Sienna, go inside and check if there’s a leather bag there?”

“Oh, okay” Sienna didn’t hesitate and quickly turned to go inside and search.

When she came back, she was holding a leather bag about the size of C4 paper. “Is this it?”

“Let me see” Miranda took it, opened it and checked, then picked up her phone, “Found it, it’s here”

“Great” Josiah breathed a sigh of relief on the other end, “Grandma, could you have someone bring it to me?”

“Sure,” Miranda agreed and hung up the p

phone.

She Hipped through her contacts, about to dial a number, but remembered something and suddenly looked at Sienna, ‘Sienna, come here”

“What is it?” Sienna asked.

Miranda took her hand. “Here’s the thing, Josiah is waiting to use the contents of the file bag, I can’t trust anyone else with it. Could you, please, make a trip?

Afraid she might refuse, she tapped the tile bag. “These are all business secrets. I don’t feel comfortable handing them over to an outsider:

Sienna hesitated a lot. She was well aware that Miranda’s words had a significant reason behind them, which was to play marchanaker‘ between her and Josiale

She didn’t want to go, didn’t want to see Josiah. However, she couldn’t directly tell Miranda that they were in a state of mutual annoyance.

“Alright.” Sienna gritted her teeth and agreed. Anyway, she was just there to deliver something to him; she could leave as soon as she handed it over without having to talk to him.

“Good girl,” Miranda smiled with satisfaction, “No rush, stay with me until the afternoon before you leave.”

Josiah’s a

s documents weren’t needed until the evening, it wouldn’t be appropriate to go too early… It was better to wait until nightfall.

“Oh, okay,” Sienna didn’t know what Miranda was planning. “I’ll do whatever grandma says”

In the afternoon, around four o’clock, Sienna left the nursing home. She carefully placed the leather bag into her backpack and boarded the bus to Yarrowdale.

Yarrowdale was a bit far away, a subordinate town of Jeiacrity, still in the development stage, and the bus ride took a full two hours.

After arriving, following the address Miranda had sent her, she walked for a while and found the hotel where Josiah was staying.

The hotel was also brand new, with the air filled with the scent of fresh renovations. Upon arriving at the hotel. Sienna turned her backpack to the front and called Josiah

In his room, Josiah picked up his phone and saw Sienna’s name. Why was she calling Thinking of the words they exchanged during their argument, his expression darkened, and he hung up the phone.

On her end, Sienna held her phone, blinking in confusion, “Why is

isn’t he answering? Isn’t he waiting for the documents? Perhaps he was busy! Not convenient!

Sienna thought for a moment and sent him a message: [Miranda asked me to bring something to you. Then, she took a picture of the leather bag and sent it over]

Her phone vibrated again. Josiah sneered, not finished yet! Was he that despicable in her eyes, that she would still contact him!

But he still picked up his phone, swiped it open, and saw that she was there to deliver the documents! Suddenly, he got up and left the room.

Outside, it had grown dark. The sunset was just a sliver, hanging in the gap of the horizon.

Sienna was wearing an apricot T–shirt on top and a pair of cargo jeans below, with her seaweed–like long hair hanging behind her, tied with a black rubber band. She stood there, a slender and tall figure, like a swan bathing in the twilight.

Unconsciously, Josiah rolled his Adam’s apple. His throat felt a bit itchy and dry.

He walked over. “Sienna”

Hearing his voice, Sienna looked up at him, “You’re here. She quickly took off her backpack and handed him the leather bag. “Here, this is for you. Check if this is it?!“.

Josiah opened it, flipped through it, and said, “This is it”

He closed the leather bag and looked at her with amusement. “You have quite a sense of timing.”

Sienna didn’t understand what he meant

“Don’t pretend,” Josiah pointed to his wristwatch, “When I called Grandma, it was one o’clock, yet you only brought it to me now. You knew there were no buses back at this time, wanted to stay, right?”

Sienna still didn’t react, her mind only on his words–no buses back.

Josiah didn’t hide his sarcasm, “You haven’t used this trick a few times before.”

“Alright,” Josiah waved his hand generously, “Anyway, no matter what you do, I won’t waver. For your trouble, come with me, I’ll have someone show you where to rest”

He turned and walked ahead, thinking she would follow ubediently.

But Sienna stood still, not moving. She fa

Inally understood—he thought she had arrived this late on purpose.

Jostal turned back to see her still standing there, displeased, “Aren’t you coming? What, now that I’ve seen through your scheme, what other tricks.
