Chapter 28 Look with Heartache
Rachel watched Lela's actions and her expression became even gentler. "Do you like babies?"
Lela thought for a moment and nodded. Actually, she had no concept of babies as living beings, but looking at this woman, she felt that this baby would be born very happy. Lela touched her belly again.
[Little one, you're lucky to have met me. Your fate shouldn't be cut short.]
How should she tell this beautiful woman that there was a problem with the baby in her belly? Or should she find a way to add her own blood to her food, have the mother consume it, and let the baby absorb the nutrients through the placenta, naturally detoxifying?
Seeing that she liked the baby, Rachel smiled even more gently and placed her hand on her belly. "Baby, you will have a beautiful big sister."
Upon seeing this, Lela clapped her hands and stood up from the steps.
Thinking that she was going back to her room, Rachel didn't want to disturb her anymore and said, "Lela, rest well. Next time Sylvester, Charlie, and you come to the garden, I will cook for you all."
Lela smiled slightly and nodded.
Rachel turned around and pulled the ignored Elvis, walking towards the garden. After taking a few steps, Rachel turned sideways and waved at Lela.
Lela waved back.
Elvis became more jealous, "Wife, how long do you want to leave me hanging?"
Rachel reacted and laughed, "Oh, you even get jealous of a little girl."
Elvis was speechless.
As Lela turned around, she saw Watson coming down the stairs with her backpack.
Watson walked a bit hurriedly; he didn't want to stay here any longer. He had had enough of being awakened in the middle of the night whenever Charlie had a situation. Now, since the young master Charlie woke up, there was nothing for him to worry about. He needed to leave quickly.
Lela looked at Doctor Watson with interest and walked towards him in the next moment.
Extending her slender arm, Lela hooked onto Doctor Watson's tie and pulled him towards the backyard.
The old man was quite refined, wanting to wear a tie every day. Watson, pulled by Lela's grip on his tie, didn't dare to argue. He could only sigh and think, [this is the way Lady Phoenix should be!]
What's the big deal about acting cute in front of Sylvester and Charlie?
As there was no one in the backyard, Lela, holding onto Doctor Watson's tie, stopped and turned her back to him. "You can't leave yet."
Her voice was cold, giving off a chill that didn't match her age. But perhaps due to her young age, if one listened carefully, there was still a hint of sweetness in her voice.
Doctor Watson's face immediately drooped. The old man in his sixties grabbed Lela's arm and coquettishly said, "Lady Phoenix, this old man misses his wife. I haven't gone home for several days, and she gets scared when she sleeps without me."
Lela felt goosebumps all over her body. She rubbed her arms with both hands and then pushed Doctor Watson away.
"This is serious."
She couldn't stand his petulance anymore.
"Then I..."
Lela didn't listen to his explanation. She turned and took the backpack behind Doctor Watson, opened it and rummaged through. She found a test tube from the laboratory, a long one with anticoagulant inside, like a blood collection tube, around five milliliters. She poked her finger to drip into the tube.
Doctor Watson was puzzled. "Lady Phoenix, what are you doing? We still have blood samples in the laboratory. We don't need your blood for now."
Lela coldly glanced at him, and Doctor Watson immediately fell silent, keeping his hands in front of himself, bowing his head in silence.
Lela looked at the capacity of the tube. The blood on her fingertips hadn't filled the vacuum glass tube yet, and the wound had already healed.
Remembering the kindness that woman showed Sylvester and Charlie, she made up her mind and took a disinfected surgical knife from Doctor Watson's backpack, slicing her wrist.
Fresh blood flowed into the tube like a thin thread.
Upon seeing this, Doctor Watson felt both shocked and heartbroken.
"Lady Phoenix... Aren't you in pain?" It hurts just looking at it.
Lela remained silent, then closed and shook the tube as it was filled. Doctor Watson handed her a sterile piece of gauze.
Lady Phoenix, hurry and press down on this bandage."
Lela didn't refuse. She took the bandage and covered the wound.
"Go to Elvis's garden, find an excuse to check Rachel 's pulse for her illness, and give her this blood to drink."
Upon hearing this, Doctor Watson immediately sensed something was wrong. "Lady Phoenix, could whatever is harming Rachel also harm the child in her belly?"
"Yes," Lela casually wiped the wound with the bandage. Looking again, the wound had disappeared, leaving the skin intact as before. However, she didn't let Doctor Watson know about this. She wiped and covered it with the bandage again. "The baby's condition is not optimistic. But I have told you what needs to be done."
Doctor Watson couldn't help but sigh. It seemed that common people were better off. These aristocrats appeared glamorous on the surface, but who knows how dirty they were on the inside?
"I understand, "Doctor Watson nodded. Then he pondered and became distressed again. "But Lady Phoenix, I don't know how to check pulses."
When he entered the Divine Doctor Valley, he was already a renowned cardiovascular expert in Central City. However, because he admired the profoundness of traditional medicine, he joined the community in Divine Doctor Valley and met Lady Phoenix, who was several decades younger than him.
But he was slow-witted and had always struggled with traditional medicine. Even now, he was still not very skilled at checking pulses.
He could only console himself by saying that each field of expertise was different between Western and traditional medicine.
Lela sighed lightly. "Are you really not capable of pretending?"
Doctor Watson's eyes lit up.
That's right, Lady Phoenix had already diagnosed the illness. He could just say a few words, describe the symptoms, and have Rachel consume the blood.
While arranging his backpack, Doctor Watson couldn't help but ask, "Lady Phoenix, I want to know why you are pretending to be mute." And she even wants to stay by Master Sylvester's side.
"Of course you do..." Lela looked at Doctor Watson with a smile that wasn't really a smile.
Doctor Watson was taken aback, quickly putting on his backpack. His little mustache trembled. He had experienced countless pranks played by Lady Phoenix in the Divine Doctor Valley, so he was a bit scared.
Doctor Watson chuckled and hurriedly said, "Naturally, Lady Phoenix has her own plans. I ask too much. I'll go give the medicine to Rachel."
After saying that, he quickly grabbed his backpack and slipped away.
