BOOK6 Chapter10
Then he put on a different face, tenderly taking Rachel's hand as he walked out.
"Why are you here, sweetheart? I told you, you're pregnant now; it's not safe for you to be in the morgue."
"I was worried you didn't bring a coat. It's chilly outside, and I didn't want you catching a cold."
"It's fine. What matters most now is you and our son. I'm tough;
nothing can get to me."
"Oh, stop it," Rachel teased playfully, casting a glance toward the morgue. "Is the body inside the one from the news? The woman who's been dead for four years and was mummified?" "Yes, the autopsy is still ongoing, and it's progressing slowly."
"The killer really is ruthless," Rachel remarked casually. "They even ruptured her uterus, removed the baby, and stuffed it back into her
stomach?"
At her words, Michael's eyes widened in shock.
The intern pathologist, who was following him, was equally stunned.
In that moment, Michael's clenched fists trembled with suppressed
rage.
He cast a deep, fearful look at Rachel, but she didn't notice anything amiss.
The newspapers and news reports had not revealed the full details, only mentioning that my uterus had been ruptured and the baby removed, without specifying that the baby was stuffed back into my stomach!
But Rachel's inadvertent confession, combined with the pearl earring
and the precise injuries on my body, left no doubt that she was the
killer.
Michael forced himself to maintain a calm facade. After Rachel left, he collapsed in the autopsy room, furiously screaming and sobbing in
helpless rage.
The
intern pathologist stood by, stunned and speechless.
"Phoebe... Phoebe!"
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry! I was so foolish!"
"I actually believed Rachel's lies, shared a bed with her, hated you for four years, and hated your parents for four years!"
He knelt on the ground, repeatedly bowing his head in apology, confessing his sins to me.
I floated nearby, silently observing his belated apologies and

confessions.
Four years ago, when he sponsored Rachel, our marriage began to
deteriorate.
Rachel, a rural, ordinary, financially struggling university student, was c**ning beyond measure! She continually pushed my boundaries, provoked me, and tried to push me aside to take my place! I had once discussed this issue with Michael, but he always deflected, growing increasingly impatient.
"You're overreacting! Rachel is straightforward, but she's not a bad person. Maybe her words just gave you the wrong impression."
"You're being unreasonable. Are you stressed from work lately? Why do you have to slander Rachel? She's from the countryside and has worked very hard to get where she is." "Stop being unreasonable. You're too sensitive."
I remember every single word he said.
