Chapter11

"If only I had tried harder to stop her, maybe it wouldn't have come to this." Zoey suddenly stood up, picking up the document from the floor and spreading it out for everyone to see.

It was the divorce agreement I had drafted before I left, already signed with my name. Her eyes were bloodshot, her voice h**se.

She declared to Jackson, one word at a time: This was Jenna's last wish. In honor of her sacrifice for you, sign it."

"Don't taint her path to reincarnation."

With that, Zoey collapsed to the floor, sobbing uncontrollably.

I wanted to comfort her, to hold her, but once again, my hand passed right through

her.

That's right, I'm dead.

I can't comfort anyone anymore.

Jackson, being one of the city's top taxpayers, was allowed to observe the

interrogation after being cleared as a suspect.

He hadn't slept in days, and in his black suit, he looked more like a corpse than a living person.

The leader squinted, lighting a cigarette at the corner of his mouth. "That woman sure was tough."

"I broke her arms and legs, but she was still breathing. We tortured her for three days-my men were exhausted."

"In the end, I had to put her out of her misery."

"We beat her for three days, and she didn't make a sound. But when I told her no

one was coming to save her, she cried. It was kind of funny."

Jackson slammed his fist against the glass, his eyes bloodshot with rage. the leader laughed even more wildly. "She kept calling out,

the noise, the Jackson, Jackson..."

He glanced at the glass, letting the ash from his cigarette fall to the floor. "Mr. Jackson, is that you? Feeling sorry now? Where were you when it mattered?" Jackson tried to lunge at him, but others held him back.

He was lucky to be allowed to listen in at all-if a fight broke out, things would get even more complicated.

The leader tapped his head as if recalling something. "Oh, I almost forgot. A few years ago, someone hired me to meet Ms. Jenna."

"The rain was pouring, and she was on the phone, so I held an umbrella over her."

He let out a strange, raspy laugh. "Then I pushed her down! Ms. Jenna bled so much." "Such a pity, such a pity," the leader said, shaking his head in mock sympathy. "If Ms. Jenna had left Mr. Jackson sooner, she wouldn't have had to die."
