BOOK3 Chapter11

I stood there, watching the drama unfold, a detached observer. It all felt so surreal.

Suddenly, Ethan pulled out a knife, plunging it into Mr. Carr's chest.

"Don't you dare speak of my mother!" He stared at the spreading stain of blood, his eyes wild. "It seems you can't bear to sacrifice your precious daughter. Fine! I'll do it for you. These documents are a gift from your daughter. I'll leave them for the police. You can apologize to my mother in hell. As for your daughter... He yanked the knife out and turned towards Evelyn. "She owes Yuna an apology too!"

Evelyn cowered, paralyzed by fear, watching helplessly as the knife plunged into her flesh. A scream tore from her throat.

"No!"

Evelyn's mother, her mind snapping under the strain, huddled in the corner, rocking back and forth, ignoring her daughter's pleas for help.

There would be no rescue. The Carter staff was mysteriously absent today.

Ethan's blows were calculated, avoiding vital o**ns. He watched Evelyn bleed, a chilling smile spreading across his face. He tossed the knife aside, his actions conveying a sense of twisted liberation.

He stepped over Evelyn's broken body, ignoring both her and her lifeless father, and the now-catatonic Mrs. Carter.

"Hello, I've just killed someone." He slumped onto the sofa, his clothes stained with blood, and dialed 911..

Ethan was arrested.

Book chapter11

And the invisible force that had bound me to him vanished.

I was finally free.

My parents were dead. Ethan was in jail, awaiting trial. It was Ayla who took care of my funeral arrangements."

That sweet girl. She sobbed uncontrollably, clutching my urn as if it were a liteline.

I stood beside her, wishing I could comfort her. "Don't cry, Ayla. They say tears on ashes are bad luck. I'm okay now. Maybe I'll even get to see my parents again. I miss

them."

But she couldn't hear me. She just cried harder...

It was raining on the day of my burial. I thought Ayla would be the only one there.

But I was wrong.

Ethan was standing by my grave.

How did he get out of jail?

I saw the cast on his leg and understood.

Then I saw

Ayla, seeing him, glared at him, her voice filled with rage. "Ethan, Yuna's gone. Who are you trying to fool with this act?"

The Carter case was all over the news. Ayla knew everything, about Ethan's motive,

his revenge.

But she, like me, understood but couldn't forgive.

"I just wanted to say goodbye..." Ethan stood there, the rain soaking his clothes.

"Yuna doesn't need your goodbyes!" Ayla spat. BOOK3 Chapter12

1 never intended for any of this to happen.... I knew Evelyn's temper, and I was afraid she would hurt Yuna, so I... The company too... The Carters were planning lestroy the Corporation. I wanted to protect it... I planned to bring Yuna back when it was all over, to explain everything, to beg for her forgiveness... The baby... The baby... it was. necessary. If we hadn't done the surgery, she would have..." Those explanations... If I had heard them while I was alive, perhaps my heart would have softened. Perhaps I would have forgiven him.

But now

If he had trusted me, if he had told me everything from the beginning, none of this would have happened.

There were a thousand different paths he could have chosen, but he chose the one with no turning back.

In the end, he didn't love me as much as he thought he did. He loved himself more...

"Stop it!"

it!" Ayla interrupted him. "Don't you dare disturb her peace with your lies... Just accept your punishment, Ethan. I hope, in her next life, and the one after that, Yuna

never meets you again!"

Ayla turned and walked away, opening her umbrella. In the distance, sirens wailed.

Ethan, with his injured leg, had escaped police custody to come here, but they would find him soon enough.

He knew it too.

He looked at the approaching police cars, then turned and slammed his head against my tombstone. "Yuna, I'm comi.. to be with you."

thout hesitation, I flung myself in front of him, my spectral hand stopping his head.

just before it made contact with the cold stone.

1 had never been able to touch anything before...

Ethan looked up, his eyes widening in disbelief. "Yuna..."

"Yuna... I was wrong... Don't leave..."

"Ethan, you can't die." I looked at him, my spectral heart strangely calm. "You owe me too much. You have to live with what you did. It's over between us."

I felt myself fading, watched as Ethan reached for me, his hand grasping at empty air. I heard his anguished cries, my name echoing through the cemetery as the police surrounded him, pulling him away... It was finally over. I had to find my parents. I hoped it wasn't too late.

Maybe I would be their daughter again in the next life.

As for Ethan... Just like Ayla said: Never see again.
