BOOK3 Chapter9

"Did your wife suffer from any m**l illnesses, sir?" the officer asked, taking notes, "She was found wearing a hospital gown from a psychiatric facility." "She... she had a miscarriage... She wasn't... stable..." Ethan swayed, his hand gripping

the edge of the metal drawer to steady himself.

"You liar!" Ayla jumped up, her eyes blazing "Yuna wasn't sick! You cheated on her!

You killed her! You're the murderer!"

The officers exchanged a look, then separated Ethan and Ayla, taking them away for questioning.

Evelyn, who had been waiting outside, was also brought in.

They all had solid alibis, so the questioning didn't last long. They were allowed to leave, instructed to stay available for further investigation.

Ayla was still furious. Standing in front of the police station, her eyes red and swollen, she pointed at Ethan and Evelyn. "This isn't over. I won't let Yuna die in vain. You two will pay!" "We've told the police everything. They believe us. Stop trying to blame us for everything." Evelyn retorted. "She was crazy. Who knows how she died?"

She tried to take Ethan's arm. "Ethan, tell her."

Ethan pulled away, his face grim. He said nothing, got into his car, and drove off, leaving both Ayla and Evelyn standing there.

What was he doing now?

Was he putting on a show of grief because he felt guilty? Was he afraid I would haunt

him?

It turned out Ethan wasn't afraid of ghosts. He was going insane!

The kind of insane that belonged in a padded cell!

When he got home, he took off his jacket, rolled up his sleeves, and began methodically cleaning the apartment.

Every trace of Evelyn was erased, her belongings tossed into the trash.

Then, he went into the guest room and removed the white sheets, revealing the furniture and objects beneath.

Only then did I realize that everything that had belonged to me was still there. He had just hidden it all away. But why?

To pretend that everything was fine? To avoid facing the truth of his actions?

He recreated our apartment, restoring it to the way it had been before I left.

When he was finished, he collapsed to the floor, his voice a broken whisper as he

called out my name.

"Yuna..."

It was a raw, heart-wrenching sound, unlike anything I had ever heard from him.

I approached him, waving my hand in his face, but he didn't react.

He was just talking to himself.

"Yuna... I was wrong... I never betrayed you... I just..."

I strained to hear the rest, but he was sobbing now, his words lost in the sound of his grief.

I felt a strange mix of anger and pity.
