Billionaire's Betrayal: My Ex Beg Me To Love Him Again -
Chapter 0052
Chapter 0052
Caroline's POV:
William stood stock still with a mixture of shock and anger scrawled over his face. He must have overheard Laden speaking, but from the confusion that flitted over his expression, he clearly hadn't heard everything.
I scrambled to find anything that would calm him down and get him to leave. This was a private conversation between Laden and I, and William was the unwelcome eavesdropper. As I struggled to string together the right words, William came forward and seized his friend by the collar.
Laden's eyes were blown wide with shock and betrayal. "Hey!" he shouted, tugging uselessly at William's arms. "What are you doing, man? Get off of me!"
William was too filled with emotion to listen to reason. "You were the one who sent the test results, Laden," he growled. "Why were they different? What do you mean by 'serious illness
"?"
The doctor's frantic gaze filled with confusion. "What are you even talking about? Let me see the report. You must be overreacting or something."
My ex-husband growled at the notion that he was overreacting, but he still dropped Laden anyhow, yanking the original report out of his back pocket and handing it over.
Laden curiously peered down at the information given to him, puzzlement etched into his features. "That's weird," he murmured. "This information doesn't match up what I observed when we were processing the samples for the test. Though, Caroline's name is clearly on
it."
"So,
what does that mean?" William demanded impatiently.
"It means I'll have to call the hospital," Laden replied, tugging out his phone. "Just give me a
moment.
As he stepped outside to start a call with his colleagues, William loomed by my bed, tapping his foot with clear agitation by all that was going on. Thankfully he wasn't taking his anger out by constantly yelling at me.
When Laden returned, he was accompanied by a look of irritation. "They lost her file," he grumbled, stuffing his phone back in his pocket.
William looked about ready to lose his temper. "How the hell did they manage to lose her file? How does something like that even happen?"
The doctor pinched the bridge of his nose tiredly. Whether his exhaustion was from the medical complications or from William himself, I didn't know. For the sake of validation, I wished it was caused by William. "They had a network outage earlier. A lot of data was lost, including Caroline's."

"It looks like you need a better system," William huffed. "Great. Now what are we supposed to
The sharp ring of his phone broke through his words. He yanked the device out of his pocket, glaring down at it as though it had personally insulted him. His expression softened, though, when he saw the Caller ID. Placing his phone on speaker, he said, "Sophia, baby, what's wrong?"
I cringed before I even heard Sophia's voice. Just remembering the woman's cruel words put me on edge.
"William," Sophia answered with a whiny tone. Can you bring George back? I miss him."
William's agitated expression melted away into something softer. "Yeah, of course," he agreed without hesitation. "The maid has him right now. I'll have her bring him back."
"When are you coming back?" she asked, sounding rather impatient. "You've been gone for so long."
"It won't be long, babe. I promise." William looked over at me, his expression sour. "I'm just having some problems right now. I had a physical exam done on Caroline and I think someone messed with the results." Sophia let out an excited "oh!" and said, "I have a friend who's a doctor! I've been meaning to introduce Caroline to him since he's such a good physician. He'd be happy to do a physical exam if you need one now.'
Suspicion immediately welled up inside of me like a spring. This sounded like a normal act of kindness, but I knew better. Sophia was a tricky woman who hated me, so there had to be an ulterior motive. "I don't want a physical from your doctor!" I replied firmly. Sophia's voice returned to its droning whine, one that begged for sympathy. "Oh, honey, why is she so angry? I just want to help her. Am I doing something wrong?"
Sophia's inauthenticity made me sick. I attempted to reject the offer again, only to be disrupted by William's angered voice. His visage was twisted into a nasty glare. "You don't have a choice in the matter. Now, what's the name of your doctor, Sophia?" Tragically, just as William had said, I truly didn't have a choice in the matter. William forced me into his car and drove me to the hospital with Laden tagging along. I wasn't in any condition to escape this time and my results came swiftly.
I watched boredly as William scrutinized my test results. With an angered growl, he threw them back on my lap. "They're the same as last time!" he snapped.
Brimming with surprise, I peered down at papers, and sure enough, the diagnosis was the same. "Oh." Despite the positive results, I still had my suspicions about Sophia. I never once believed William's little "sweetheart" would help me in any sincere way. "Oh'?" William scoffed. "Is that all you have to say? 'Oh'? You led me on this wild goose

chase, lying and stringing me along, and now it turns out that there's nothing wrong with you at all! You're just pretending to be pathetic because you think I'll sympathize with you!"
Anger flashed through my body like a rippling tide. "You seriously think I would do something like that? Oh, screw you!"
William ground his teeth as he sat on the verge of exploding with anger. "That's it! Get out of my apartment!"
