Chapter 123 Worthy Opponents

Yvonne showed a keen interest in the food before her, far more than in Benson’s recent explanation.

Each carefully prepared dish seemed like a small joy in her world, softening her usually melancholy gaze.

The dining room was filled with the light sounds of forks and spoons touching plates, but the silence only increased the tension in the air.

Benson watched her cold demeanor intently: she was like an isolated island, surrounded by icy waters he couldn’t cross.

He felt an inexplicable sense of defeat, which quickly turned into

anger.

He wanted to say something to break the oppressive atmosphere, but his voice caught in his throat.

He frowned deeply, clearly expressing his displeasure.

Despite the anger Yvonne stirred in him, he couldn’t deny the thrill he felt in matching wits with her.

Facing her, everyday moments easily turned into games, each day. filled with unknown puzzles waiting to be solved.

He had often found her too plain, but now realized her unpredictability made their shared life interesting.

Although he frequently fell into her traps, he found a strange pleasure

in it.

During this silent dinner, Benson lit a cigarette and contemplated through the swirling smoke.

Had he not discovered that box of birth control pills that afternoon, he might have continued to indulge her.

After all, a man freshly loved tends to be especially forgiving and

patient.

After finishing her meal, Yvonne seemed to relax slightly, lounging. lazily on the sofa.

She closed her eyes, enjoying the brief tranquility, while Benson watched her silently, trying to see through her calm exterior to her complicated inner world.

He knew he might have been harsh earlier but was willing to make amends, to cherish her.

Just as Benson was about to clear the dishes and go upstairs, a new servant approached quietly, informing him that a delivery had arrived.

He was slightly surprised and took the package. Seeing the pharmacy logo on it, his displeasure surged.

As he climbed the stairs, the pharmacy bag in his hand grew heavier.

He opened the bag to find the online–ordered birth control pills lying inside.

A sense of betrayal washed over him. He reminded himself it was just a mundane issue, but his superficial smile had vanished.

He couldn’t help but think, she was so eager to order the pills right after waking up.

What did this urgency signify? This box of birth control pills struck a sensitive nerve.

Yes, a man can spoil a woman and even indulge her whims.

But when it comes to planning for children, all jokes and indulgences can become sharp blades, cutting deep into his vulnerable heart.

As Yvonne pushed open the door, the air seemed to freeze.

Benson stood by the window, his back to her, holding the pill box, his shoulders trembling slightly.

His silhouette was cast on the dim wall, lonely yet resolute.

Hearing the door, he turned slowly, his eyes flashing with complex

emotions.

“Explain,” he demanded, his voice low and powerful, like a volcano. about to erupt..

Yvonne, startled by the sudden seriousness, instinctively took a step

back.

However, she quickly composed herself, picking up the discarded pill box from the floor, responding indifferently, “I don’t want to have children.”

“Is it that you don’t want children, or you don’t want my children?” Benson pressed, the tenderness and affection now replaced by anger, almost overwhelming Yvonne.

Faced with his interrogation, Yvonne frowned slightly. She knew she needed to be firm and clear..

Taking a deep breath, she answered resolutely, “Yes, I don’t want to have your children.”

Benson’s expression changed, his tone filled with sarcasm and suspicion, “Is it that you want to have Marcus’s child instead?”

He stepped closer, trapping her, his eyes cold enough to freeze her.

Yvonne felt the pressure but tried to remain calm, “Don’t be ridiculous, Marcus has nothing to do with this! Our problems are our own.”

Her voice was steady, but inside she was tumultuous.

She had already prepared for divorce, just waiting for Benson’s agreement, but he remained obstinate with his unreasonable

thoughts.

The conversation gradually quieted down. Yvonne’s calm and determination completely defeated Benson.

He felt an unprecedented sense of powerlessness, realizing that neither past intimacy nor future expectations had anything to do with love anymore.

Benson turned silently and left, leaving Yvonne alone in the room.

Downstairs, Victoria shook her head in disapproval, muttering, Pathetic.” But she also felt a sense of unease, noticing the growing tension at home.

Meanwhile, Yvonne sat quietly on the sofa upstairs, closing her eyes. as tears slipped down her cheeks.

The countless grievances and pains of the past three years had reached a peak today.

She felt a sudden sense of relief, realizing it might be time to end

everything.

After a while, she stood up from the sofa, tidied her clothes, and decided to leave this place that troubled her heart.

Little Emma followed her, pouting unhappily.

Yvonne knelt down and gently reassured her, “Emma, Auntie has some urgent matters to attend to. Once I’m done, I’ll let you stay with me for a few days, okay?”

The girl reluctantly nodded, her eyes filled with both expectation and worry, “Alright, but come back soon, okay?”

Yvonne smiled, hugging Emma warmly before getting up to leave.

In the following days, the two didn’t contact each other.

Yvonne was busy securing the Eurasia Jewelry endorsement for Bella,

while Benson was deeply irritated by her.

Her complete lack of intention to reconcile only made his mood.

worse.

Even George was careful not to provoke him, working cautiously.

“She wants Bella to be the spokesperson fo Benson’s voice was cold in his office.

urasia Jewelry, right?”

“Yes, Bella’s temperament fits well,” George answered carefully.

Benson sneered, his eyes flashing with malice, “Let Mary join the fun

too.”

The founder of Eurasia Jewelry had opted not to choose a big–name star but instead sought a spokesperson who truly matched the brand.

They even held auditions in various cities to raise brand awareness, though some said it was just a publicity stunt.

At the Eurasia Jewelry auditions, there were both unknowns and familiar faces from the entertainment industry.

Even Mary, despite her injured leg, had come, showing the brand’s high value.

Mary spotted Yvonne and smugly approached, “Miss Yvonne, I’m really sorry about the other day. Even though I’ve been treated that way by your father…”

Her tone was feigned with apology but laced with provocation.

Yvonne suppressed her anger, knowing that reacting strongly in public would be foolish.

Mary’s goal was to provoke her.

Bella, unaware of what happened at the hospital, looked puzzled, ” What’s going on?”

“Nothing, you go ahead,” Yvonne replied, glancing at Mary, “Mary, Mr. Benson is here. He must really care for you.”

Hearing this, Mary turned to see Benson’s car arriving.
