Chapter 54

Catalina's POV

After we cleaned ourselves up we ate the now cold food Andrew brought and just lounged around for a bit until Murphy and Rachel joined us. Even Julie and Jet joined too. Everyone was hanging out and we decided to order food to be brought up. Before the food arrived I managed to pull Julie aside. I noticed her acting differently towards me and I wanted to clear the air.

"Hey Julie, I wanted to know what's going on?" I ask her in the kitchen away from the group.

"Oh nothing much." She said shortly. She wasn't going to make this easy.

"No I meant between us." I say and her eyes flicked up to mine. She sighs.

"Look Lina. I'm sorry, but I can't help but feel like I'm in competition with you." She says. I look at her confused.

"I mean, my brother is head over heels for you. My parents talk nonstop about you. And now my mate spends every day training you, and obviously you guys had some thing. It's just I thought my mate would be mine. He doesn't feel like that." She says. Man I didn't know she felt like this. "Jet and I never had a thing." I say.

"I'm sorry Julie. What can I do?" I ask. He eyes shift between mine and the group to make sure they weren't listening. Then she takes a step towards me.

"You can back off Jet." She says in a sharp low tone, that surprises me. I know shock is written all over my face. She takes a step back.

"Look I'll go get the food. I be right back." And she turns and leaves the apartment. I am still a bit surprised when I feel arms wrap around my waist. "Where did Julie go?" Andrew asks.

"She..she went to get the food." I stutter.

"Hm it would have been delivered. Come on. We are picking a movie and I need someone on my side." Andrew says and turns me around. I join them on the couch and we pick a movie. After a few minutes Julie returns with the food and passes out everyone's orders. I got a burger with fries and a milkshake. I know a milkshake before a fight isn't advised, but I still have 4 hours and they are my favorite. But I could only finish about half, my stomach felt like it had butterflies in it. My nerves were getting to me. We watched a few movies before it was time for me to get ready. I go in my room to get dressed and ready for the fight. I pull my hair back and step out into the living room. Everyone except Andrew has gone down.

"Lina I..." Andrew trails off.

"Please be careful. I can't lose you again." He says. I bury my face in his chest and hug him tight.

"I will be alright." Looking up at him and smiling. We head out of the apartment.

"Stairs?" Andrew asks. I smile and nod. We head down the stairs and out into the lobby. I'm surprised nothing has happened. Maybe Jackson wants a fair fight? Just then, like I summoned him with my thoughts Jackson walks by.

"Enjoy your lunch little mouse?" He says as he walks past me and Andrew heading for the door. I heard Andrew growl. What did he mean? What was going on? Andrew took hold of my shoulders. "Lina are you ok? How do you feel?" He looked so concerned.

"Fine I think. My stomach is a bit upset but that's just nerves....right? Oh god Andrew what did he do?" I trying not lose my cool, but I am freakin out. Did he poison me? Am I going to die? KAYLA! "Kayla?" I wait and nothing

"KAYLA?" I scream and nothing.

"Andrew, Kayla.. she's gone." I say as tears stream down my face. How can I beat Jackson without Kayla? Andrew's face looks concerned. He has to be thinking the same thing as me.

"We have to talk to the council, they have to reschedule. There has to be something we can do."

"There isn't son." I hadn't even notice Raymond standing there. Andrew's head hangs. We both knew it, he just said it.

"Lina, you will have to fight him in your human form. You are one of the best warriors we have. You can do this." Raymond says. But I know this is close to impossible. But I have to show a brave face. I can't show weakness. I'm the High Alpha. I wipe my face and nod at him and head for the front door. "How did he get to her lunch?" Raymond whispers to Andrew.

"I don't know. Julie went and picked it up. She wouldn't let anything happen to Lina." He whispers. Julie? She wouldn't. Would she? I can't think about that now. I need to focus. We make our way to the training facility and walk in. All the Alphas and Councilmen are there alone with Jackson. He gives me a smirk as I enter and raised eyebrows. Did he think I wouldn't show? Andrews POV

Mark wanted to come out and rip Jackson to shreds. I'm physically sick walking in here with Lina and her being so vulnerable. He could kill her, how did he do it? And how am I supposed to just sit here and watch my mate fight him? My father places his hand on my shoulder as Lina walks over the fighting area.

"How am I supposed to watch her fight him in this state?" I ask without talking my eyes off her.

"You have to trust the Moon Goddess. She has a plan for her son." My father sounded so sure. We walk over to the other Alphas and take a seat. I see Councilmen Eric talking to both of Jackson and Lina. Jackson just has a smile on his face the whole time, the f*****g snake. Eric walks away from them and then Jackson says something to her. She whips her head to the crowd with shock on her face. I stand up to see who she is looking at, but it can't be. Catalina's POV

Councilmen Eric comes over to us.

"I know this is a fight to the death, but I will not tolerate any dirty tricks. If I so much as sense something off I will call off the challenge." He says, mostly to Jackson who has a creepy smirk on his face. We both nod in agreement and he turns to address the crowd. Jackson shifts his attention to me.

"I'm surprised you didn't say anything to Eric. But I guess it's because you have no proof of the culprit. It's a shame you can't trust family anymore." He says and turns to get in the fighting area. FAMILY. I turn to the crowd and my eyes fall on to Julie. Her face is beet red. She doesn't advert her eyes. Her face is blank. Why? Why would she? Just then Eric's voice booms out.

"Alphas and guest. We are here to observe a Challenge to the death. The challenger Alpha Jackson challenged Luna Catalina to the death." The crowd did not cheer. It was actually quiet. I took my position opposite Jackson. "May the challenge begin!" Eric's voice booms.
